Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Krause.
Jesse, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always thought photography was super cool ever since the first time I used a Polaroid camera. I started shooting muscle cars and some landscapes about 10 years ago and then moved out to California from Illinois. It was only about 3 or 4 years ago that I started shooting some fashion with local models and swimwear too. I love shooting on the beach! So much fun. I’m hoping to set up a small studio soon for personal projects and to help hone my skills with artificial lighting. My dream job? Shooting swimwear for Victoria’s Secret!
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been pretty smooth but slow too. I also work as a low voltage electrician, so it can be tough to find a balance and excel with my photography at the same time.
Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
I don’t believe in luck. Well, except as a way to describe random events that are significant, good or bad. I’ve always been an avid reader of Brian Tracy, Napoleon Hill, and others similar. It’s taught me that to get what you want, you really just have to go out there and make it happen. Time goes by quick, so you have to hustle! And never ever give up on what you really want.
I like this quote: “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I’ve always thought that it was silly of others to be afraid of doing what they wanted to do, maybe because of what others would think or something… But then sometimes I feel afraid to push forward too! I think that what helps me out is realizing that I’m doing that so that I can just blast through it. The thing is, I can’t be afraid to fail because it’s going to happen at some point anyway. And, if I never try something, or never pursue what I want because of that fear, I’m guaranteed to fail. So I guess the attitude of just going for it has taken me quite a distance in the last few years.
What do you love about our city and what do you dislike?
What I like best? I can’t describe it! It’s like a deep familiarity – like the face of a close friend. Even when I go places I’ve never been. I travel to Vegas a lot, and when I drive home, as I’m going past downtown, something inside me just feels so happy. Haha sorry, that’s weird! But L.A. def has a personality in itself. Across the country, there’s nothing like it.
What I like least? Traffic!!!! And all the smog that it makes. I’m really hoping someone invents something to retrofit our cars to make them cleaner!
