Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Williams.
Adrienne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m originally a GA Native by way of Harlem, NYC. I came to visit the city years ago as a part of a theatre visit and vowed to return as I fell in love with the city. Immediately after high school, I attended the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre and remained in the city decades later.
Through hard work and dedication; I have a great agent and have appeared in television shows such a Dr. Oz and Good Morning America and my most recent project is called “ I know this much is True” an HBO series starring Mark Ruffalo and Rosie O’Donnell… This success hasn’t come at a heavy price to pay – I have experienced several tragedies while residing in a city miles away from my family. I lost a brother to murder, a father to suicide, and my mother is both a cancer and stroke survivor… Life has a way of humbling you and through acting I’m able to utilize the pain… Today I am a homeowner in the beautiful Harlem Neighborhood if NYC, with a Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership with features in The Daily News, The Amsterdam News, and The Beacon News Media’s… I’m grateful for all of the many lessons I have learned along the way…
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all smooth – but it’s ok – nothing worth having ever really really is… I was unemployed for two years, exhausted my savings, stepdad passed during hard financial times and mom was diagnosed with kidney failure around this trying time – while I remained in a city that was miles away. I kept the faith, and my agent was a great support because the auditions continued and I simply continued to PRAY… I mean what else could I do?… 🤷🏽♀️
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actor/writer/creative who has an immense passion and adoration for the elderly that are in my opinion major contributors to humanity and many are left in circumstances that do not reflect their lives contributions… my company offers companionship for those without family that still maintains a zest for life, or perhaps bedridden or in nursing homes, etc. Those that have families or children in other states or simply families of their own and when they take vacation my company will send someone over to discuss whatever selected topic of interest… We all need and can learn from one another and many times the elderly walk with a wealth of knowledge with no one to share it with especially the widows that often live alone… It’s our responsibility to care for them… Doing so makes me proud…
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have pursued my craft more aggressively. Acting takes hard work and dedication and I always had a plan B when IT should’ve been my ONLY plan ALL the time…
