Meet Adrian Mainou

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Mainou.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela in January 7 of 1999. Started playing the drums when I was seven years old and thats where my passion for music started. With the years going on, I knew that my passion to study music as my career was going to be the path I was gonna choose so in 2016, I joined the school of my dreams in Boston called Berklee College Of Music leaving behind my entire family and everything I knew with only 17 years old.

When I got to Berklee, I got to learn many different things that I never had the opportunity to see when I was back home and I slowly started falling in love with Music Business to the point that in my 3rd semester, I declared Music Business focusing in Marketing and A&R. As time kept going I started my major I started working in different projects with people in my school, I found a passion to create the marketing in events working with shows for Radio Disney, Big events in the Berklee Performance Center, helping upcoming artists to build their brand and their marketing so they could start growing as professional artists, working together with the Berklee A&R group working with labels and industry professionals and many other things. I always had in my mind that I want to leave the name of my country in the big shell by working hard and proving that with hard work and passion nothing cant stop you.

I graduated Berklee this past May 2020 in really challenging times but that didn’t stop me from working hard to grow as a professional and to keep working towards my goal of becoming someone respected and well known in the music business industry. I moved back to Orlando, FL where now I’m currently working with JAK Entertainment were some of my favorite artists work and its like a dream come true. I keep working hard to meet my goals and to keep evolving and growing for my future. I’m excited to see where life will take me and to see a growth in this new chapter of my life.

Has it been a smooth road?
Moving countries is not an easy thing, especially when English is not your first language. I had a lot of doubt on myself and felt self-conscious that the language barrier was going to be an issue. It got to the point that I wasn’t sure if what I did was the right move for me.

The first years weren’t easy, I had to work extra hard because being a Latinx in a big college was already a challenge when you come from a place that doesn’t has all the opportunities that you find here. But that didn’t stop me from working hard, studying hours and hours extra so I could understand everything in my classes, working two jobs inside of my school so I could survive and help my family and finding my way working and finding opportunities that would help me work and grow as a professional.

It was hard because I also moved at a really young age so a lot of people wouldn’t take me seriously but I had many opportunities to prove myself and to show them that even that I’m young, I’m always ready to work hard and bring everything I have to the table.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I work as a music business marketing manager and A&R with various artists, helping them create marketing plans for their upcoming releases, social media, promo, creating their image as an artist and helping them grow into what their vision is.

I’m currently working with JAK Entertainment where I’ve had the opportunity to explore new perspectives of what I like to do supporting with marketing, management work, label manager and many other things that are helping me evolve.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As my new chapter starts, I want to keep working to meet my goals. I hope that in a couple of years, I will be working in one of the top industry labels supervising my team and working hard to keep putting the name of the places I work for high and my own. I always see each experience as a unique learning path where I will continue learning from the people I work with.
