Meet Adam Roa of The Art Of Choosing Love in Venice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Roa.

Adam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In December of 2015, I realized I had definitely gone off the deep end. There I was sitting on an air mattress on the floor of my Santa Monica apartment, looking around my newly emptied living room which used to be full of stuff that I had just given away for free. I had spent the day watching people come in and out taking all of my things: a snowboard, surfboard, pots, pans, books, and paintings.

About 75% of everything I owned was now gone. The only thing left was my girlfriend and our dog.

And so with most of our belongings given away and no source of steady income, having just quit our jobs and started new coaching businesses, we left the city that we had called home for the last seven years and made the choice to be homeless. We decided to let Spirit guide us with no clear plan in sight other than the trust that we would wind up exactly where we were supposed to be.

Because our intuition told us to, our intuition had said loud and clear that it was time to prove to ourselves that we truly could do anything we put our minds to. It was time to remove the safety net and apply all the lessons that we had been learning through our personal and spiritual development for the last several years. It was time to take a leap of faith. That subsequent journey would lead to seven months outside of the United States in eight different countries.

It would lead to a 10-day silent meditation retreat by myself in India. It would lead to volunteering in a refugee camp in Greece and building clean water wells in Tanzania, Africa. It would lead to building a successful coaching business from the road, despite being 1000’s of miles away from what most experts would say was my customer base. It would lead to a powerful experiential understanding about the beauty of the world and the people in it.

Fast forward to 2018, my girlfriend and I are planning on getting pregnant by the end of the year. Instead, both of us separately received the message: it’s time to break up. In what may be the craziest action of our lives, we decided to walk away from our 9.5-year relationship, with nothing wrong, to more deeply understand who we are and what we are here to do. To more deeply understand what’s happening on this planet without the safety net of our relationship. And so we did.

The next morning in meditation, the message came through loud and clear: film everything. I began to turn a camera on the break-up and the subsequent journey I have been on and turned it into the Youtube show “The Art of Choosing Love.” It is through this show that I am choosing to share all the most raw, vulnerable moments of my healing journey, including my healing from my sexual abuse when I was a child.

With all the noise that is currently out there in the world of personal development and social media, I feel a call to stop TELLING people how to live, and simply start SHOWING them how I’m navigating the world using Love as a compass.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been a variety of challenges along the way, the most recent being my breakup from a 9.5-year relationship. We chose to break up not because anything was wrong, but simply because there was a very clear message from our intuitions saying it was time.

As I began to film the show, “The Art of Choosing Love,” I did so because I felt compelled to. It felt like a mission that I have been given. And yet for the first six weeks, all I was going off of was the message “film everything,” and I had no real idea what I was actually filming.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Art Of Choosing Love – what should we know?
I’m mostly known for four things at this point:
1. Spoken Word Poetry. I have a viral poem “You Are Who You’ve Been Looking For” that has been viewed more than 4 Million times and is all about how we can find deeper levels of self-love. I have a personal development based spoken word experienced called “Permission To Think Freely” which artistically breaks down the mechanics of how we create our reality and how we can collectively shift into a more loving world. This has toured Internationally twice and will be going back on tour in the middle of 2019.

2. Personal Development Coaching. I lead workshops, group programs, and coach CEO-level clients who desire to cultivate more artistry and bring their unique voice to their lives in a more powerful way.

3. The Art Of Choosing Love. This is my new YOUTUBE show that chronicles my journey of what it means to be an empowered man in 2018 and covers topics such as breakups, dating, artistry, entrepreneurship, spirituality, and healing from sexual trauma.

4. The Deep Dive Podcast. I started this podcast because I realized I was surrounded by incredible humans having truly meaningful conversations and I wanted to invite listeners to be flies on the wall for them. It has gone out weekly for over two years and covers everything from spirituality to sexuality and business.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The single most important characteristic that I attribute to my success is willingness. The willingness to challenge what I think I know in order to discover new parts of myself and new ways of moving through the world.

The willingness to get back up when I fall or when I feel lost. The willingness to say “YES” to my intuition, even when I can’t logically determine why I’m being asked to do what I’m asked to do.
