Meet Adam Hiner of Boochcraft in Chula Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Hiner.

Adam, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started out (three of us – Andrew Clark, Todd Kent and myself) with the idea for a kombucha brewery. Shortly thereafter, we decided to make it a higher alcohol kombucha and we realized at that moment that there were currently no healthier options for alcohol consumption. You couldn’t even find the ingredients on an alcohol label if you tried. We were all very much into organic food and knowing where our food comes from and we figured that it should be the same for our alcohol. We self-funded the brewery and built it as fast as we could. We started selling Booch in March 2016 and have expanded multiple times since then. Currently, we are one of the fastest growing breweries in the country across both beer and kombucha.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never a smooth road building a successful business. We have had challenges with distribution, cold chain, educating the market, cash flow, capacity… you name it we have struggled with it. But all those struggles have made us stronger. We are ready for the next obstacle and the next one after that.

Please tell us about Boochcraft.
We make high alcohol kombucha, and we are damn good at it! Our Booch is the only hard kombucha on the market flavored with cold-pressed juices, making it bright, well balanced and delicious. We are also making an impact in the community as members of 1% for The Planet, we donate to projects that make a real big impact. Like the Farm to Families program at Wild Willow Farm, which we co-created back in April 2018.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I loved being at my family Farm in Virginia. The expansive outdoors were so amazing. You could run around for days and not see the whole property. I still go back there each year when I am visiting VA.
