Meet Abbie Brewer of Phab Photobooth in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbie Brewer.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Abbie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was always in corporate America until I started Phab Photobooth. I had dreams of becoming an entrepreneur starting in my 30’s but never knew what I wanted to do – just knew there was something more for me out there when it came to a career. Two major things happened in my life that were catalysts to me finally walking away and becoming a full-time entrepreneur.

My daughter was born in 2016 and a year later my mom passed away. Because of these two tremendous life experiences and at the urging of my husband I had to take the leap of faith and go out on my own and create the career life of my dreams! The idea for Phab Photobooth came about because I would help my husband out at his events (he’s a wedding videographer and would offer a “video booth” that I would work) and I saw the photo booth companies and thought “Hey- I could do that.” I’ve always loved photography and had basic equipment so I sort of thought I knew what it would take to start Phab Photobooth. So in 2108 I officially launched Phab Photobooth and have been hustling ever since!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mother.  Thankfully you had a partner who urged you to build something of your own.  Has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think I’ve had any major obstacles that have impeded my growth or business but every day – every event is a learning experience. The challenges are – you are constantly learning. Whether learning about new software, new “ideas” for the booth experience, how to find clients, how to price, how to scale your business, how to be better at social media, etc – you are constantly learning and looking for resources to help you grow your business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Phab Photobooth – what should we know?
Phab Photobooth is a photo booth business that creates phabulous experiences for our guests! Before I book a client I like to speak with them on the phone to hear what their vision is for a photo booth at their event. I like to make sure we are going to be a good match and that I can provide them with what they are looking for in a photo booth experience. I like to think we are bringing an experience and helping them and their guests create memories.

We do more than just take a photo of someone and give them a printout. Once we are in the process of preparing for the event I like to create a custom experience for them. From designing their template, the overlays and choosing a backdrop, I listen to what they want and then produce content tailored to their vision.

One thing that some people might not be aware of is how the photo booth industry is really helping corporate events. Most people know the “fun” value they bring to events but they are just now beginning to see and understand how it helps with their marketing efforts. With the addition of a sharing station photo booth, users are able to email themselves images from the events and post to social media most times right away.

This helps bring awareness to that companies events. Whether a company is launching a brand or at a trade show – photobooths help them stand apart from their competition. This is where my experience in corporate America helps me because I have an understanding of what companies want and how I can deliver that experience for them.

At the end of the day, we are a company that is in the business of helping people create phabulous experiences at their events – whether they are private or corporate events. We are a company that is in the business of helping people and making sure their events

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There are several moments that I am proud of in this journey from growing from having one booth to having two, from sending out attendants to events on their own but the proudest moment so far was when I had two booths set up with two custom backdrops and two separate experiences.

I wanted to create an experience for the attendees so my client and I talked about it. We set up one booth for one experience of taking photos and the second booth was set up as a video and Boomerang station for another experience. It was amazing to see the vision come to life and to see how much fun everyone had! Those days keep me pushing to learn and grow in this amazing industry!
