Meet Aaron Van Holland of House VH in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Van Holland.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started with a barn. My grandfather’s century old barn provided us reclaimed wood for almost five years. Our initial series of furniture designs paired this rustic material with a modern, minimal aesthetic.

Since then, our team has explored an array of materials and construction techniques to create an assortment of projects including residential furniture, restaurant builds, hotel accessories and more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. Our journey has been more like a roller coaster!

One of the biggest challenges for a small shop like ours is knowing when and how to scale the business. That’s been a difficult crux to overcome, especially when you design and produce everything in-house. Overconfidence can lead to scaling too soon and potentially blowing through your funds.

On the other hand, being too timid leads to scaling too slowly and missing out on crucial business opportunities.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
After much consideration, we’ve decided to take everything we’ve learned in the business of design/manufacturing and apply our experience to a new innovation for the home.

Our KARVD collection includes an ongoing series of modular, wood-carved wall panels and wall-mounted casegoods to help you design a custom experience for any home or workspace.

This product is the first of its kind to be rearrange-able, rotatable and removable.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up on the family farm in Oregon imparted a resilient work ethic while those century-old barns and rusty machinery formed my appreciation for utilitarian design. The laborious farm life juxtaposed with my love for skateboarding encoded in me a strong sense of independence and determination.
