Life & Work with Zoé Kraft

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoé Kraft.

Hi Zoé, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started making home videos when I was very little. They started scripted (if that’s what you want to call them) and as I got older, I started documenting my friends and family around me. That’s where my interest in video began. When I got to college, my strengths proved to be in editing, but a large part of me still enjoys conceptualizing visuals and capturing the natural presences of people.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say I’ve been very lucky, but that doesn’t mean it’s been smooth. I’ve gotten where I am because of the wonderful people I’m surrounded by. In this industry, word of mouth can make or break someone. One job has always led me to another and I believe that’s because the work I put in is strong.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a video editor/director. My favorite projects to work on are music videos and what I call short “slice of life” docs. I love creating little worlds that others can look back on and get lost in a feeling.

What makes you happy?
You could say I get lost in these little worlds as well. It feels really good to help build them and then live in them for a moment of time. My goal is to ultimately make the people I’m working with feel empowered and confident in their art. I truly enjoy being able to capture a person’s natural being and then having the ability to show them how beautiful it is.
