Life & Work with Tristan Axworthy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristan Axworthy.

Hi Tristan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Three years ago, my cousin (Dustin Perry) and I started talking about opening a studio in Salt Lake. I had been engineering at a studio I co-owned in Hayward, CA called Treetop Studios. After a few conversations, I decided to take a chance on Utah and come out to see what we could do. Within a couple of months, we realized there would be enough of a need for a proper hip hop studio in Utah. Since then, we’ve grown to be the top search result when you Google Recording studios in Utah & Salt Lake City.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been smooth enough to forge ahead, but the beginning definitely took more perseverance than not. We learned that we might have to move within about four months of opening up, but things ended up working out so we were able to stay. During the remainder of that first year, it was definitely more of a grind, but when Covid hit we got a huge boost from the lockdown. It became clear that having a creative outlet for people served as a healthy release from all the chaos and uncertainty, which we couldn’t have been more glad to facilitate. Once that momentum kicked in, we saw it continue to grow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been engineering and producing music since the late 90s. I’ve engineered music for some famous artists such as Wiz Khalifa, SOB X RBE, Sada Baby and Mozzy. But my true passion is working with up and coming talent to develop their sound and creative voice. I develop relationships with my clients and I truly care about balancing industry-quality sound with their creative vision for the song.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Making our clients happy and bringing their creative visions to life so they are ready to present to the world.
