Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessa Grace.
Hi Jessa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a lifelong creative with a passion for making things by hand. Around seven years ago I started embroidering my own patches when I couldn’t find any that were cool enough for my jean jacket. During this time I accidentally stumbled into the Fashion District in DTLA where my mind was blown by the infinite possibilities. I almost immediately bought a sewing machine and began to teach myself how to design and make my own clothing. Everything I know is from trial and error mixed with pure determination.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Teaching myself how to design and sew was certainly a challenge. I am dyslexic and there is a lot of math involved with pattern making which is the hardest part for me. It has been a gift, in the end, to push through the struggles because now I know exactly how to conquer a situation if I ever get stuck.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My designs are born from what I personally seek in a clothing item; Undeniable style, comfort & versatility that accentuates individuality. A piece that can be worn all day, dressed up or down, and is ethically made. The main thing I want to express in my work is that Individuality is power.
My current focus is designing and making custom pieces for stage performers. There’s nothing like seeing someone express their art while wearing a piece that I made specifically for them. My most recent collaborations have been with John Notto from the band Dirty Honey and singer/songwriter Noah Vonne.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I have always been a feisty adventure seeking creative old soul.
