Life & Work with Sarah Carroll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Carroll.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born and raised in Flint, MI. Growing up, my mother always called me her social butterfly. I never knew my natural-born talents until I got older. I did sports off and on but never took anything seriously. In high school, I had a friend who was an aspiring photographer and wanted to use me as her muse and from then, I started modeling. Although I didn’t start taking it serious until my adult years, it always came naturally to me. My journey wasn’t easy from working two jobs, going to school as a nursing student, and pursuing my modeling dreams, I had a full plate but with the grace of God, I seemed to manage well. I lacked a lot of support and help from family, therefore, I became very self-driven. Being so has brought me many accomplishments such as walking in two NYFW’s, LAFW, featuring in Vogue.com as well as Bella Magazine, Winning 3rd place in the NYFW beauty contest hosted by Nigel Barker, walking in Big Sean’s DON WEEKEND fashion show, and being able to represent lots of talented artists and designers. I have also expanded my talents further into acting featuring in local films and varies music videos. Believing in myself was the best thing I’ve ever done and I only get better with time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I struggled with expenses at the beginning of my career. What a lot of people don’t know about aspiring models is that they aren’t paid for their initial work. When a model is in the beginning stages of their career, they are required to have some type of portfolio or work to present to agencies and casting managers. Therefore, majority of the work you do in the beginning is free. It takes money to make money.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a freelance model. I specialize in print, runway, and commercial modeling. I am known for my fierce walk down the runway. And my bold headshots. I have a strong, universal look. I am most proud of is my growth over the years. Modeling has taught me to not only be confident in myself but also be humble in everything I do. Remain thankful for my everyday blessings and to share them with others.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising about me is that I have a natural passion for helping people. Although modeling comes effortlessly, I have a passion for nursing because I like to help and heal people as much as I can. I am also a huge advocate for happy and healthy living, so I promote much peace and holistic health.
