Life & Work with Pinjamari Jirout

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pinjamari Jirout.

Hi Pinjamari, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved from Finland to Los Angeles late 2019 so right before the pandemic. When moving so far away from home, you want to establish a life closest to your old life and habits. So I immediately started to connect with other Finnish people who became my friends. I also wanted to find businesses that offer me Finnish delicatessen or other ways resemble nordic way of living. With the help of my friends, I found these amazing hidden gems and brought my American friends with me. Now we can enjoy Finnish food and fashion but still live the LA life.

My favorite place to get Finnish treats is Shoops market in the main street. They also have a cafeteria if you feel like staying there for a while. Buying and selling second-hand fashion is really easy in this Finnish-owned rent-a-rack -store reDress, located in Atwater Village. This store concept is the first in US as far as I know.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When the city was in lockdown and we couldn’t travel we definitely felt homesick a lot. With the help of the technology and friends, we could luckily help that feeling by face timing, camping and cooking together.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When I lived in Finland I did a lot of modeling and social media content creation. It has been more quiet here and after 2,5 years I’m still adapting to this new lifestyle. During the lockdown, I entertained myself with TikTok and suddenly found myself in such a position I started to make more business deals with it. It’s interesting to see how many Americans are interested about nordic lifestyles and cultures and I’m happy to share this information with them.

What matters most to you?
My family and friends are very important to me and every time I have a chance to support them, I will. When I started as a freelancer long ago, I received a huge amount of support from my inner circle, it’s time to pay it forward.
