Today we’d like to introduce you to Goldm9.
Hi Goldm9, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For me, it all starts in Racine and Milwaukee, WI. I grew up with a strong influence of music around me. My brother was my biggest inspiration growing up. His love for skateboarding, rapping, singing, and making beats really inspired me to dabble in everything myself.
A lot of my cultural foundation comes from Milwaukee, however, it wasn’t until I moved to Chicago at the age of 18 that I gained my freedom. There, I started focusing more on skateboarding, and without realizing it, skateboarding would become my way out of Chicago. While there, I got the part in a commercial for AT&T skateboarding, and that paid for my first plane ticket out of there.
Thinking back on my experience moving to California, it was truly surreal. I remember arriving in San Fransico and being overwhelmed with the beautiful scenery. I still get emotional thinking about it. While I was in Frisco I became a part of a collective called “Them Hellas”… Full of people just like me. Duckwrth, Queens D Light, Joe Mousepad are just a few of the names that were in the collective. We did our thing, made great art, and did great shows. Then I moved to LA and that’s where I am today, still doing it all however now my main focus is music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all, by any means. I’ve been through a lot. When I first got to Cali, I was homeless. I’ve lived in tents and different places and that was a really hard part of my life, however, I knew then that It was only an obstacle and that there’s no way I came here to just be homeless on the streets.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do a lot! I make music. Specifically, I sing, rap, engineer, and I play a few instruments. I make beats, I skateboard, I bboy (Breakdance), and I write graffiti. Honestly, I’m known for all of those things, but right now I’m most proud of my singing. What sets me apart from the others is my diverse range in music. Since music is my main focus, I’ll elaborate there as far as what sets me apart. A lot of people play guitar, bass, and piano and sing and rap. It’s my influences and how they’ve translated through me on every level however musically. The way I dress versus the shit I talk about, and especially how I say it. It’s diversity for me.
