Life & Work with Monique Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Martinez.

Hi Monique, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Immediately after graduating high school, I enrolled myself in Brooks Institute of Photography where I earned my Wedding Photography Certification.

I would shoot all types of gigs— photobooth-type photos for backyard house parties, baptisms, senior portraits, small events, and then eventually weddings.

After working as a Product Photographer for a women’s Jewelry and Accessories company for nearly 9 years, I recently took the leap of faith to pursue my own personal photography business full time.

Now, I am very excited to choose myself and all my clients who trust me with their precious memories and create magic.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road!

About 5 years ago or so, I almost gave up on my passion and sold most of my photography gear as working a full-time job(outside of my business) and juggling a romantic relationship seemed impossible if I still took on my personal clients.

I prioritized my ex-boyfriend as I thought we would be getting married and all those living things. After that relationship ended, I decided to pick up the camera once again and fell in love with how I could use my talent to express my creativity for my clients and I am forever grateful for that.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional photographer. I build relationships and trust with people to create visual imagery that captures the essence of who they truly are.

I specialize in creating safe spaces and bringing positive energy to all people in alignment with my creative vision. I’m known for my laid-back, (sometimes high energy,) always laughing, and easy-going personality.

I’m most proud of the culture I’ve been able to create with my network of clients and the way I can make almost anyone smile with my photographs. I feel my ability to be able to build relationships sets me apart from others because I genuinely care about people and am not focused on transactional exchanges.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel my self-awareness has been most important to my success because once I became honest with myself my life shifted from living without a clear vision to being very purposeful.

I question myself constantly, “Why am I doing this?” I do this to live authentically for me first, then to live by example to inspire others. When you know what your purpose is and it’s beyond yourself, you start to make waves. It’s easy to give up on yourself, but when you know you have a legacy to create, the responsibility and reward are so much greater.

This is all intentional and is really the sweet spot we should all be if we really want to do great things.
