Life & Work with Marcus Bohlert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Bohlert.

Hi Marcus, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I left my full-time job to take a 15-hour part-time job at a beauty counter. The first make up company I worked for was Bobbi Brown cosmetics. But for some reason Mac cosmetics always caught my eye all the flashy trendy make up looks. So eventually, after three failed attempts, they let me in and the rest was history. After working two years I encounter, I was itching to step off and do my own thing and looking for more opportunity. So why not do make up in the strip club… Three years at the largest strip club on the East Coast in Philly called Delilahs. I started to gain extensive clientele and word was getting out about me. One of my first celebrities I encountered, it was DreamDoll the female rapper.

Shortly after Vivica A fox team reach out to me to do make up for her hair company Vivica Fox hair collection. I didn’t think I was going to meet Vivica but then I did and we hit it off and three years later, I still work for her and her company. We have done meeting greets all across the country, it’s helped me gain more exposure which has led to commercials like sleepies mattress Forman Mills and many more. Recently one of my accolades was Cynthia Bailey reaching out to me to secure glam in the city. It was an honor that she even took me into consideration and she absolutely loved her makeup. Now I cover all things beauty I am dubbed the concierge of beauty. I offer for services from bridal TV film and permanent make up which is called micro shading. Who knew playing in a little bit of make up could change my whole life what a blessing!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road to be a successful business owner it statistically takes four years for you to make money. I have lived in rooms in the hood and have you eaten Ramen noodles for breakfast lunch and dinner just to make it by. But there’s a will there’s a way. I worked three jobs just to pay my room rent in the beginning. One of the largest struggles recently was definitely Covid 19 and overcoming that, I know I can definitely do anything I’m glad that there were a grants and programs that help keep me afloat.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I specialize in red carpet and beauty make up. I have known for my flawless skin applications which have been dubbed “glass skin”. But what really got me on the map where my eye looks I’m really into shimmer high shine sparkles stuff that makes your eyes pop. What I am most proud of is throughout the years I’ve always maintain professionalism. I strive to arrive early for appointments and accommodate clients so whatever their needs are. Hence why I call all my services experiences and that’s why I am called the concierge of beauty. What really sets me apart on the market it’s my professionalism it is like no other.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Creating and beautifying people in the chair is what makes me happy. It’s nothing like giving your client that mirror and they’re like oh my God, I’ve never looked so beautiful my life its just warms my soul. That’s what makes me pick up a brush every day
