Life & Work with Maja Re

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maja Re.

Hi Maja, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been drawn to working with and supporting people—even as a baby. By the time I was two, I was the “mother” and seen as the natural leader in any group of kids. I grew up with a single mother and my one older brother, so it’s no shock that I ended up strong-willed, resilient, and driven. I always wanted a “better” life than what I came from. I wanted to use my struggle and my strength to my advantage and blow past what anyone told me I could or couldn’t be. In fact, if you told me I couldn’t do something, you picked the WRONG person to tell that to. So for the first half of my life, I knew my hard work and talent got me to where I was. Including when I “made” it to my dream job!

It wasn’t until I realized it wasn’t my dream job that I learned my true colors.

On the afternoon of July 18, 2017, in an instant, my whole life changed. Everything shifted. Nothing made sense, yet everything was clear. Many of us are driven and propelled by the events that happen to us instead of taking those events and rising above to an even better place. Bills must be paid, so we focus on how to make money rather than honing in on our true purpose. I feel eternally blessed for my wake up call…

In 48 hours, I found out that cancer had been removed from my body and was “no longer there” and before I could even process “beating” such a terrible disease, my mother was taken from this earth.

It was then that I knew that I was put here for something bigger, something greater than myself. I knew I needed to find my true path.

It was then that I decided to leave the Corporate World and voyage on my own to find my true path. I started teaching yoga, became a double reiki master and Breathwork practitioner, and I really thought at the time that was it. I had started teaching corporate yoga—helping the very world I left—and I thought that was it for me. I was going to help heal the world through my teaching, and I said goodbye to the Interior design world and part of me that I thought I would never return to.

Little did I know that my two worlds would collide.

After teaching one of my Moon Rituals, my student and now dear friend and mentor, Andrea said to me…”Maja, I know you said you don’t want to design anymore, but I have to ask you, I have this idea to design yoga retreat centers all over the world, and I was wondering if you’d want to work with me on this?” My jaw must have dropped to the floor and my husband’s eyes bugged out of his face like a cartoon character. NO WAY that my two worlds were colliding…like what? That doesn’t happen…

Well, I can tell you it does and it has. Andrea and I are currently designing the first of six retreat centers that will be all over the world. And next week, I leave for Tulum for another possible retreat center project with Andrea.

I don’t know where all this will lead me, but I can tell you that I finally feel like I am fulfilled and on the right path both with teaching yoga and designing. Stay tuned! I can’t wait to lead a retreat at a retreat center that I designed!!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If it’s smooth, is it even a road? Gosh, I can say that I have had to overcome a lot, from the loss of my mother to “beating” cancer to pivoting and sifting and hitting rock bottom to realize my true path. If I could give you any advice, I’d say this. Don’t ever allow your “situation” to stop you from doing what you want to do. Follow your heart, ALWAYS. As they say, if it doesn’t make sense yet, it’s not the end.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist turned interior designer turned yoga teacher reiki master breathwork practitioner all rolled into one.

My vision is to transform your life through redefining the connection between your mind, body, soul, and space, reimagining the way we live worldwide. Whether that be through your yoga practice or through connecting your space to your mind, body, and soul, I am here to support you on your journey.

I am most proud of being able to combine what I do into one cohesive offering that allows you to be guided to what you need. I holistically transform your life through all of the tools in my belt.

What matters most to you? Why?
Feeling loved and supported. Being loved and supported is important to me because it keeps my head above the water; from the love and support of my husband to the love and support of my mentors, I couldn’t do what I do without their encouragement and love. It keeps me going!
