Life & Work with Magdalene Nsek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Magdalene Nsek.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my business in November 2020 during the pandemic when I was cosplaying and practicing my makeup out of boredom. I got laid off from my on-campus job, so I had to figure my life out. When I came up with Chibi Cosmetics, I have been able to sell my products online and in person at anime con and comic cons. Plus, providing makeup services for people has been helping me get better as an artist.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although I had support from loved ones and school, it’s been hard. I had to balance school, a day job and overcome grief. I dedicated the business to my mom because I know she would’ve wanted me to keep going. Plus, if we’re really honest, degrees don’t guarantee a luxury life after graduation so growing my business seemed more realistic to show growth in being a professional.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance makeup artist that specializes in Special Effects, Bridal, and Fashion. As much as I enjoy helping people with their cosplay, it’s refreshing to do normal beauty on models and brides. It brings unity to my customers and clients that aren’t necessarily into anime and cosplay or even know what that is.

What’s next?
My goals are to be at more conventions, launch more products in my inventory, increase my clientele, and keep on learning. In addition, I’m learning how to provide hair services too, so stay tuned.
