Life & Work with Joy Ira

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Ira.

Hi Joy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My mother, daughter, and I started as Church volunteers by rendering services in the Ministry as choir members. Back then, my daughter was 7 years old, and I never thought that she had a natural talent in singing. We wanted to be a part of a great community that will help us in our spiritual journey. One day, my daughter was asked to sing the Psalm in front of the many parishioners attending the Sunday Mass. I could humbly say that they were amazed with her voice and recommended that she needs to enhance and cultivate her talent. My mom, a voice and piano teacher, trained my daughter for some time until she was ready to join and compete in various talent competitions. My daughter became the St. Andrew Church singing Champion and had won in other singing events and global competitions. She was invited to be the front act of local and international artists, including the award-winning singer and songwriter Mr. David Pomeranz. My daughter was invited to showcase her talents in many Bay Area festivals as well as in other sports events to sing the US national anthem. All of these great experiences had opened opportunities for us to appear in tv programs, newspapers, and online magazines.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life has not always been smooth sailing along the way. We had experienced major challenges to be where we are at this moment, my mom suffered from cancer, and few years after, she passed away. It was the most difficult moment for us to lose someone we truly love as well as an inspiring mentor and a teacher. We promised to keep her legacy that we will continue serving our community using our talents and skills. Since my daughter was transforming into a teenager, her voice was changing too. Thanks to Vibo Music School because they have been patiently training her with different styles and techniques in voice and piano that will help her gain more confidence and excel in her stage performance.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been working in the financial industry for almost 2 decades. My daughter and I have been a community and Church volunteer since 2014, we are proud to volunteer and be a part of events for a cause that will help us to give back to our community. During the pandemic, my daughter had participated in our county’s teen events so that they will be able to show their talents virtually. We are indeed proud that during those trying moments, we were still able to be a part of various events that had also allowed us to be connected to the Fil-Am community, such as the Filipino Heritage Month which my daughter had been an active participant since 2019.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson that I have learned in my journey is to always consider every challenge as an opportunity to improve and to become better. In this very fast-paced environment, I always think that communication and guidance play an important key in helping my daughter to fulfill her dream of becoming a successful singer. I empower her to create a roadmap of her way to her aspirations in life. The road may not be smooth all the time, but as a parent, I will guide her in conquering all those obstacles and adversities on her adventure in life. Recently, we both walked the runway in the Reno Fashion Show, and it was an awesome experience to be onstage with my daughter. She is now also a lead vocalist of a band with members ages 9 to 15 who were all trained by Vibo Music. I will continue to support her into her upcoming participation as a national anthem singer in other Reno, Nevada, sports events.
