Life & Work with Erika Guerrero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Guerrero.

Hi Erika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi my name is Erika Guerrero, I’m the owner of Boots and Wicks. Boots And Wicks started in 2020, in the midst of a pandemic. It was inspired by my dog Boots. I created this brand to fund his vet bills as we found out about his heart murmur. The love we got from the small business community and all our customers and supporters is why we are still here today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
At first, it took a lot of trial and error. I really wanted to focus on a clean brand, affordable yet with great quality. After research and a few batches, we finally found the wax that works for us, found clean fragrances and wicks. By clean, we mean non-toxic, which is our main focus. We believe great things take time, but passion and dedication is everything. Post Pandemic was a challenge; juggling a 9-5 and a small business was a new thing for us. However, we are still here and constantly coming up with new drops and exploring our creativity through candles.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets us apart is our creativity. We love to do seasonal drops, especially for holidays. We’ve done collab’s with others, we’re turned vintage vessels into beautiful storytelling decorated candles. We’ve turned our favorite horror movies into candles. And the list goes on and on. Boots and wicks doesn’t have a signature look; we love to explore different vessels; my personal favorite are the heart shapes ones.

What do you think about happiness?
I find happiness in the small things, coming home to Boots after a long day would probably be my favorite thing that makes me happy. He’s been my best friend since I was 8 years old. Never in a million years did I think I would create something so iconic because of him, my muse.
