Today we’d like to introduce you to Dzasko.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Dzasko is the name for the producer and composer project I’m currently working on.
I was born as Diego Zevallos in Lima-Peru in 1997, I’ve experimented with music production on early music software as a way to cope with my desire of being in a band. The constant experimentation of programming instruments slowly gravitated into a form of electronic music after having a “spiritual” experience with Dance Music growing up in Lima’s electronic music scene.
Up to this point, the music I worked the most was EDM, and the method of performance was as a DJ. I felt I needed to grow musically and went to pursuit a more organic and “traditional” approach with the sound, yet still with an electronic foundation, creating a Retro-futuristic journey (as I would call it).
I’ve relocated to Los Angeles by the spring of 2018 to study at the LA Film School, nurturing my love for Cinema and immersing in the live music scene of the city.
Soon I started to feel the need to experiment with the music that was pivotal during my early years back in Peru. Along the way introducing new songs like Numb (2020) and Eclipse (2021) together with J.Laser.
During the 2020 pandemic, I’ve worked on an EP that I’m proud to present on October 15, called ‘Letters from California’. With the first single called ‘Lost in a feeling’ Out now.
All coming under the record label I’ve decided to create called Phonomatic Records.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, I guess, I still “bang my head against the wall” from time to time but then I remember that I’m pursuing something that is really true to myself and I feel better.
Last year was a catalyst for my music as I found myself alone in the city as most of my friends that I usually spent time with left the country. There was a lot of uncertainty in the air.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a music producer and composer, I work under the artist name of Dzasko, and I’m founder of my own imprint Phonomatic Records.
I write, record, and produce all of my songs, sometimes with friends (amazing studio musicians).
The genre I specialize in would be Electronic music, although I like to blend a lot of different styles, like Jazz, Psychedelic rock, etc.
I’m proud of having the chance to make music and to be able to tell my story, If I could choose a body of work, it would be my upcoming EP ‘Letters from California’.
I believe that what sets me apart from others is definitely my music.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Patience is a virtue, and learn as much as you can, it’s a never-ending process. Get soaked by different ways for creative expression such as Movies, painting, poetry. They are great sources of inspiration.
