Life & Work with Dosey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dosey.

Hi Dosey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.

Dosey: “I grew up in a small town north of San Francisco called Fairfax. Both my parents are artists which opened the doors to music for me from the day I was born. I’ve always known I wanted to make music full time and never had any other vision for myself to be honest. Growing up I just like to skate, make music and go on adventures with my friends. Not much has changed with that mindset haha. I dropped a song on Soundcloud in 2015 which got over a million streams which I thought was super dope cause I recorded it on an iPhone 5 with voice memos. This was just a little reassurance that people were rocking with me and even though I didn’t immediately start taking music serious, I knew there was nothing else I wanted to do.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Dosey: “I don’t think it’s an easy path for anyone when you break it down. I’ve lost people I love, I’ve gotten hurt, my families had nothing but we’ve also been able to stay happy which makes all the difference. Growing up without money just conditions you to find value in everything else which makes life enjoyable no matter where you are or what you’re doing. As far as personal challenges I just deal with the anxiety of being an adult and having to navigate through life independently and I think It goes without saying that recent times have left people somewhat depressed and alone. I just found for me, getting outside and being active while also dialling into a strong work schedule has made me a lot happier.”

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Dosey: “I make music haha, I love everything from the instruments I play to the plugins I use to the people around and the shit we make. What separates everything I’m doing from others is that I’m fully immersed and living in the music 24/7 on my own terms. Music has never been about business for me, it’s like a language that I speak and playing anything from the saxophone to the drums allows me to express parts of me that words can’t I guess. Being able to tell stories and capture feelings and moments so they can be shred forever is a special thing. Doing it from the ground up with the people you love is a whole different story! Shoutout to Joshua Apple, that’s who I’ve made over 50+ songs with in the last year and who runs all of this shit out here in LA with me. You’ll be hearing and seeing some work from Josh soon thats all I can say.”

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?

Dosey: “When it comes to music I would say songwriting and then vocals/instruments. I write music from all genres, and I do it everyday. I’ve got songs in the vault for any type of day and situation which helps when I’m in the studio writing with other artists. In my life and who I am, I would say my sociability takes me far. I love people and taking/learning from others. I think listening will bring you further than talking forsure haha.
