Life & Work with Darrin Baldridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrin Baldridge.

Hi Darrin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got started with photography just by doing it as a hobby, I would go to sf with friends and photography cityscapes and nature. I was always the one in my family that always had a camera and photographed random things.

I started taking portraits of family and then just grew interest in studio work. I did also of studying on YouTube and shortly after starting renting a shared photography studio not really knowing what I was doing. I was eager to learn and get better so I just stay consistent and remainder humbled. Two years in, I had my own studio as clientele grew. I still wasn’t comfortable enough to leave my 9-5 so I stayed consistent and continued to learn and more importantly PLAY. As I did that, I got better and more people wanted to work with me then eventually a year later I quit my job and started full time as a photographer in Oakland, along with getting my own bigger studio.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
To be honest, the process has been smooth for the most part because I always remained humble and a student. I also strived to keep learning and improve my process when working with clients.

One of the main struggles that I still have is learning the business side of photography.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a portrait/commercial photographer, I specialize in beauty commercial lifestyle images. I’m most proud of my ability to move things forward no matter the circumstances.

What separates me is my process working with clients and having the willingness to SERVE and be CURIOUS.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a saint and quiet. I also what the person to always just figure it out instead of complaining. Getting into photography brings out a different side of my personality. Ironically I didn’t have any interest in photography until three years after high school.
