Life & Work with Caley Versfelt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caley Versfelt.

Hi Caley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Having Down syndrome, I started with self-advocacy as a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics and public speaking for many organizations, including Count on Me Family Foundation. I expanded to being a Games Associate for the Los Angeles Special Olympics World Games and a correspondent. My message is always about inclusion and kindness. I wanted to have my own business, Tides of Kindness, where I promote “Kindness is Contagious.”

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I used to be shy so public speaking used to be a little scary. Now, I am very confident. I have spoken to audiences with over 3,000 people. I surprise the world with my abilities and versatility with lots of interests and activities. We should not be defined by a label. Many try to limit me. We can accomplish a lot if we believe in each other and support their dreams. I’ve even heard the “R” word. I’m trying to change that “R-word” to be “RESPECT.”

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love learning, meeting people, and my life! I am an actress. Recently I was a guest star on The Good Doctor, episode 410. It was fun filming in Canada with the very kind and welcoming cast and crew. I am a correspondent. I was on live TV for the Media Access Awards as a co-host with Brian Johnson, interviewing celebrities on the red carpet. I’ve also worked as a Production Assistant for a few films. I like being in front of and behind the camera. What sets me apart from others is my outgoing personality and eagerness to continue to challenge myself, exploring new fields, growing professionally and personally. I am most proud of promoting a kinder more accepting world. I love seeing my Tides of Kindness shirts around town. I am also proud to work at Entertainment Industry Foundation. EIF and the entertainment industry are true champions supporting groundbreaking programs and campaigns that affect millions of people, like Stand Up to Cancer, Natural Disaster Response, Delivering Jobs which creates opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities and creating diverse talent opportunities in all parts of entertainment. I’m all about giving back and creating a better world. I am also pleased to be a Global Ambassador for Best Buddies and enjoy traveling across the country, speaking at events raising acceptance for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. All the companies I represent believe inclusion creates better communities.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I have a great life! Everything makes me happy. I enjoy being with friends, family, public speaking and attending events while promoting a more inclusive world. I love meeting everyone and sharing kindness.
