Today we’d like to introduce you to Widson Charlemont.
Hi Widson, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Winter Haven, Florida. I went to college at Florida A&M University and earned my Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism. I always knew that I wanted to be on TV or work in entertainment and media at a very young age. I started working in the TV production program in elementary school and grew a passion for it since.
I continued to work in media throughout high school and even was able to have my own radio show in Tallahassee, Florida while I was in college. I moved to Los Angeles almost four years ago after not having much luck in finding a job in media after graduating. I came out here with an open mind and wanted to use all of my skillsets to create my own opportunities since LA is a major media market. Once I arrived in LA, I got involved with everything that I could. I worked in background acting for several different TV shows, Music Videos, Movies, Commercials and other productions for a couple of years. Along with background acting, I got into modeling and working in production. I started shooting with local photographers just to get some quality pictures to build a portfolio which led to me booking shoots with local brands and those led to brands like New Era, Mitchell & Ness, and even a national campaign with American Eagle Outfitters for their Spring 2020 denim catalog. I’m even featured in video games like Madden 21 and UFC 4.
Working in production for small events in LA led to me being able to work with talent at the Grammy Awards, BET Awards, Soul Train Awards and American Music Awards. Working with so many brands and companies inspired me to create something of my own. I just recently launched my own clothing brand called Crumbs to Crowns. It was inspired by not just myself but so many people that I’ve met along my journey that have taken the limited resources that they had and are building their own empires. Along with the clothing, I plan on using portions of the proceeds to do different outreach events for the youth and less fortunate.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. There were several mental and financial obstacles. Los Angeles is already an expensive place to live so having to make ends meet in a whole different world was tough for me. I had to work a lot of random jobs outside of my entertainment opportunities. I’ve worked overnights at the grocery store to be available in the day time to run and shower to go on set during the day. I’ve delivered food for Postmates, I’ve worked at the bank, I’ve worked temp labor jobs. Whatever I could to keep myself here to create more opportunities. The mental struggles took more of a toll on me than anything else. I’m very close with my family and was so used to being around them. Now I’m on the other side of the country, in a different time zone with only the few friends I knew at the time. That adjustment was tough. Having to keep pushing and putting myself out there was a struggle after a moment when not many opportunities were coming my way. There are several auditions and shoots that I didn’t book that almost broke my confidence but it’s all working out now and I’m thankful for that. God is Amazing!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I honestly do a little bit of everything. I’m a business owner, model, fashion designer, songwriter, I work behind the scenes in production, I do it all whenever it comes to media. I’m known for pushing the envelope and constantly setting new challenges for myself to conquer. I’m very proud of so many things that I’ve accomplished but I’m most proud of moving to LA and creating my own clothing brand. What sets me apart from others is my versatility. I’ve been able to work in so many facets of the industry at a young age as the talent, behind the scenes and as the head of the brand. Everything that I’ve done is setting me up for bigger things to come.
