Life & Work with Savanah Benz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savanah Benz.

Hi Savanah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started singing country music at the age of nine when I watched my idol, Danielle Bradbery win the voice. She definitely inspired me to start singing but since I was always so shy, I never started to perform in public until I was 12. But once I did, it was amazing! It honestly felt like I’d been doing it my whole life and I realized the stage was where I belonged. Fast forward a couple of years to where I am now. I recently started a country band called “the Savanah Benz band.” We are totally authentic country. I’m the lead singer and play acoustic guitar. I have a drummer, bass guitarist, lead guitarist, and fiddle player. I’m super excited to start booking shows and see where this road will take me. I am also a country songwriter too. I write my own songs with my guitar. Recently, my unreleased original song, “Perfect Angel” was played on the radio in my state. That was so cool and a dream come true. Nothing like hearing your song on the radio for the very first time! Definitely a memory I won’t forget. I have not recorded anything yet or been to Nashville before but I am planning to take a trip to Nashville this summer and record a couple of songs to put out there. I can’t wait to let everyone hear my music and connect with it. In the future, I plan to move to Nashville either after high school or college in hopes of getting a record deal and making a living out of singing/songwriting.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No road will ever be completely smooth, but that’s what makes the journey even more important. So far, since I’m young, I haven’t dealt with too many struggles with music. But, the music industry is tough. You’ve got to have thick skin. It’s hard because as a singer, you are honestly the product. It can be wearing at times but it’s important to remember the dream and goal and look forward. Sometimes writer’s block gets in the way or writing songs consistently but I’ve learned that co-writing is a wonderful way to attack that and bounce ideas off of other songwriters. One last struggle that is sort of funny is that something always seems to go wrong before a performance. Whether it’s forgetting a piece of equipment, the power is out, getting stung on the hand by a bee that you can’t hold the microphone😂, etc. but that’s ok! Things like that are always going to happen to each performer.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a country music singer/songwriter. I perform a lot around my state. I’m known for my country twang/power and sass/spunk on stage. It’s fun to get the crowd going! I’m also known for my old pure country sound that also floats in with the modern country sound. I’m most proud of the fact that I started my own band at my young age. That for me was a huge accomplishment. I think what sets me apart from others is that I have experience and my voice is unique and can fit in with old or new country.

What matters most to you? Why?
Family, my faith, and singing matter most to me because those things are always something I can lean on in hard times. My family is supportive of my dreams and my mom especially always helps me set up for my gigs, drive me to gigs, etc. She is like my “momager.” My faith is very important to me because first of all, God gave me my talent to sing so I want to honor him with it and make others happy when I sing. I lean on my faith a lot because it means so much to me. Singing is so important to me too because it’s my absolute favorite hobby. I’m constantly singing! When I get sick, it’s so hard to not sing because that’s literally All I do. Singing is something that makes me happy and connects with others.
