Life & Work with Robin Tyus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Tyus.

Robin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started with a diaper cake back in 2009! My best friend was having a baby girl, and I wanted to gift him with something special and unique. Diaper cakes were just becoming popular, yet I couldn’t find anyone specifically that made them. So, I did a little bit of research and figured out how to make one myself! It was a big hit at the baby shower! After that, I began to make them as gifts for every shower I attended! The creative bug took over, and I started to make candy cakes, centerpieces, fruit platters, baby shower games, thank you gifts and even money leis! And THAT’S where the name BABYCAKES (another name for diaper cakes) & BEYOND (everything else) came from! In 2011, I was asked if I could make chocolate-covered treats for an event. Of course, I couldn’t turn down that opportunity, and the rest is history! I love all things creative, and Babycakes & Beyond has become my passion. I enjoy what I do, I love that people trust me to help make their event special, and it makes my day when my customers first lay eyes on their order and are amazed at what they see! Although it can be stressful at times, it’s my absolute happy place!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it’s been a pretty smooth road. My biggest issue would be that I work a full-time job as well, so I’m not able to focus on Babycakes & Beyond as much as I would like to. Leaving my job isn’t an option for at least a few more years, so I make it work as best as I can.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I consider myself a crafter/treat maker! I’m best known for my chocolate-covered treats (oreos, pretzels, strawberries, rice krispie treats, etc.) I’m proud of how far I’ve come over the years! When I look back at old pics, I can definitely see the progress. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I’m a stickler for perfection! My products must look good and taste good!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Knowing that I have pleased my customers is what makes me happy. It is important to me that my work is appreciated.
