Life and Work with Naomi L. Klein

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi L. Klein.

Naomi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Sure! I unofficially began my career in real estate around the age of five, when I was allowed to answer my family’s home phone taking messages from potential tenants calling on my family’s rental units. At nineteen, I was given authority over my grandfather’s properties in Santa Monica, CA, in charge of renting and remodeling the units.

At 24, after I negotiated my own personal real estate deals, a friend of mine got her real estate license and I thought I would too. Mine as well make money at what I was doing daily, which was looking at properties available, and going to open houses on Sundays and Broker’s caravans on Tuesdays.

When I got my real estate license and officially began my career, I joined one of the largest national real estate brokerages in the United States, winning “Rookie of the Year” in my first year, for most properties sold by a new agent. My very first client was an ex-coach for the Chicago Bulls, who was moving to LA to coach USC’s Men’s basketball team. They were amazing clients!!!

After two years, I was asked to join a small boutique firm as their managing partner.

When Compass was coming on to the scene in 2014, I remember our Compass CEO, Robert Reffkin, personally coming to speak and shared the vision he had blending real estate and technology. I just remember Robert being so passionate about Compass. When I joined Compass as agent #22 of the Beverly Hills, headquarters office, there were less than 200 agents covering one office in NY and the newly opened Beverly Hills office. There are now over 15,000 agents with nationwide locations, valued at over 4B. It’s been a fun ride!

Fifteen “official” real estate years later, my goal, with real estate is to help take the overwhelm out of selling or purchasing a home or investment property and to help educate women, especially in the process! In this goal, I have also created a 6-week, Business Bootcamp ACTIVATE to help other women real estate agents and women entrepreneurs, significantly increase their business and revenue!

I’m all about helping women get comfortable making money, finding the value they offer others and supporting their process to close the deal!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road and I’m actually ok with that. You have the normal sales cycles of business, people and life. Did I mention people? I actually welcome the challenges and the wins and… the people… for the most part.

It keeps a balance and I’m able to continue learning ways to improve, ways to be resilient and ways to strategize and communicate with things that work! It builds character and empathy for others and just how many ways there are to do things, think of things and let go of things. #ByeFelicia

Playing sports my entire life, I like looking at the playing field wholistically and looking at how to strategize, were to maneuver and how to grow with the changes. I’m still shocked when people revert to manipulative practices mais c’est la vie. It is then my responsibility to learn how to roll with that. I was once told to be quick to hire and quick to fire. I need to work on the latter!

My advice for others would be to learn equally from the lessons with the bumps in the road as well as the wins. Be resilient. Be humble. Be kind. Be generous. Put in your time. Do the research. Feel the bumps in the road but don’t get stuck there. You’re valuable and needed it may just need to be better explained or with someone else!

Please tell us about Compass Beverly Hills.
I specialize in residential and multi-family real estate from 800K-5M. I am the agent and advocate for buyers and sellers purchasing and selling properties in Los Angeles.

I specialize in Santa Monica, Brentwood, and the Palisades but work as far east as Hollywood. I 100% believe in real estate! There are so many uses and needs for it. From the first time home buyer to the seasoned investor, I’m the one-stop-shop to create and build your real estate portfolio.

With most of my clients being men, I see a need to educate and motivate women on home buying and selling in a relatable and underwhelming way! This is what also lead me to create ACTIVATE! A 6- week business bootcamp, that allows women to get comfortable making money and how to communicate the value their skillset brings to a client.

I believe there are 5 key elements to success, Instinct, Transparency, Exclusivity, Discretion, and Values.

I’m also a solo mom, raising an amazing little who is 2 years old. So patience, laughter, and priorities keep things real when you meet me and when you work with me. I can’t take the credit though, I learned it from my little. Well that, and the need to take my vitamins!

I love my mom, Ruth Klein’s books! She’s so insightful on business, time management and just keeping it real! I get my own business library at home with her insight and she’s just a phone call or 30-minute drive away!
