Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Guiles.
Miranda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was in college, I studied abroad in Osaka, Japan, and fell in love with the culture and culinary experiences. I noticed, in particular, their amazing customer service and of course, all the beautifully packaged sweets that were just as delicious as the packaging made them look. Fast forward years later, I never knew I would be able to apply those experiences to a business that I created.
I started baking when I lived in San Francisco, and my close friend, Roy, invited me over to make French macarons. I fell in love with perfecting that hard-to-master cookie. I spent many days baking, failing, baking some more, and eventually making the perfect macaron.
My sister, Michelle, noticed my persistence and gave me the nudge to start my own business. I also have a background in marketing for start-ups, so I thought it was time to give it a shot on my own. When I moved down to San Diego, I finally had the opportunity to open Mirami’s Cakes and Cookies!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When it’s smooth, it’s fantastic, but there are definitely bumps along the way. I continue to face challenges involving understanding my product offerings, pricing, and streamlining my production process. It’s important to not undervalue yourself.
For anyone starting their journey, I encourage you to speak to as many people as you can who have experience in the industry and to continuously expose yourself to learning opportunities, even if it involves some free work here and there.

I’m the owner and chief CAKEologist at Mirami’s Cakes and Cookies. I love creating high-quality beautiful buttercream cakes for weddings, birthdays, and special events! I love using Asian-inspired flavors and pops of color that are sure to turn heads!
I try to take my customer experience to the next level and go above and beyond for anything my customers might need. This often ends up creating new friendships and I love making to new friends!
