Life and Work with The Millen Sisters

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Millen Sisters.

Thanks for sharing your story with us The Millen Sisters. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started in the entertainment industry very young singing around our hometown & in church. We have a huge church background and that really prepared us for what was to come. We had our first headshots done at 9 & and booked our first professional modeling job at 11 in New York. Our parents got us into anything possible to keep us busy. We took piano lessons, and vocal lessons when we were just 6. Just about every Christmas we got an instrument from drums, keyboards and even violin. It was music in our household from very early on. Today, we’re still doing it all. We moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles to further peruse our dreams in the business. We’ve done commercial and short film work as well as modeling with print ads in TeenVouge, Cosmogirl, Rollingstone, & Seventeen Magazine & have been blessed to work with so many cool brands & companies such as Got Milk? Disney, RastAfri Braid, HGC Apparel, & Shoe Dazzle/Just Fab. On the music side we have worked with amazing people through the years & perform in and around Los Angeles currently. This past year we opened up for Ruben studdard on his Luther Vandross tribute tour and that was a fantastic opportunity for us. We’ll be opening for the Temptations on their latest tour with dates in April including at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills & opening dates for the legendary Spinners.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has been up and down and that’s expected in this business. As long as you know what you want to do then the bricks in the road are just bricks that can be moved. The entertainment industry isn’t easy to get into and even once you sort of get your foot in the door there are many challenges that arise. You come across so many that say it’s impossible or that the style of music we love & do cannot make it in today’s world. We love old school music and our style is much like The Pointer Sisters, The Emotions, & even Motown. We believe there’s a market for any and all music & believe the industry should open up to more different styles in the mainstream. We would say to the women out there with a dream to continue. Don’t stop for anything or anyone. If you have a passion see it through. No one can stop you but yourself. Stay strong and surround yourself with people who will support you. Don’t look at the next persons success in envy and worry about how or when they got there. Your path may go differently then the next & you are the author of your own novel, you have the power to write your own story. Just stay true to yourself and work on your craft and you’ll make it too.

Please tell us about The Millen Sisters.
We’re twins & our thing is music first. We want to bring a different vibe to the industry with our old school 70’s music. The acting and modeling are apart of what we do as well and that part of the industry has been very kind to us but music is our number one passion. We see ourselves apart from many because the style we’re into. Old school style singing and dressing is our thing & conveying messages of love, hope and togetherness are often themes we love to sing about. We like big hair too!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
Yes. We love to read up and study the greats. YouTube is an excellent  source to see old footage of some of our favorite artist. We utilize any magazine articles and books on the music business and artist autobiographies to give us insight on the entertainment industry.
