Life & Work with Michele Gardner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Gardner.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was five, I had a disposable camera and carried it with me everywhere. I have loved photography ever since I was a little girl. So why not turn it into my profession? I love making others feel confident in themselves and seeing how much love can be captured in a photo. Whether that be of a couple, family, or just a portrait session, every session is unique and special in its own way. Lots of people do not like to be in front of the camera, so I love to help them get out of their comfort zone and have fun. It is so great to capture memories that can last a lifetime. I like to call myself my client’s personal documentarian for all of life’s joys.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. This market is so saturated with so many amazing photographers. It has always been an honor to work with and support other creatives. Just as in life, self-doubt can creep in pretty quickly. It can be hard to not compare yourself to others. Over time, I have learned to strive for my dreams and to create my own unique brand and vision for my photography and business. I have had help along the way from amazing mentors and branding experts, all photographers as well. I am so thankful for their support and willingness to share their knowledge. These people include: Ashley Burns (Ashley Burns Photography), Megan Wells (Megan Aaron Photography), and Becca Romero (Becca Romero Creative).

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer. I absolutely love to photograph all different types of things in life. But I mostly focus on lifestyle and wedding photography. That ranges from portraits to couples to families and I always encourage bringing the four legged animal members of the family. Although my photography is a business. I love to look at it more as an art and creative opportunity. It is truly a passion of mine to capture all the joys in life and to capture the beautiful things that the world has given us. When they say a picture is worth 1000 words, they are not kidding. I believe that I am known for and what sets me apart from others is the way I capture different photos. During sessions with me, we are constantly moving. I’ll give you fun things to do and we capture those memories so we can get both candid and posed pictures. I am proud of every photo that I take. Every photo is different, every person I photograph is different and it’s so great to learn about how other people live and how they see themselves. I love to capture the liveliness and happiness of all people and animals.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Taking risks is always something that happens in a business. Sometimes there isn’t a concrete answer to things. Although I feel like I haven’t taken any major risk myself, I do believe that at sometime I will have to make that decision in my business. I believe that taking a risk that is likely to have a positive outcome is always a great thing.
