Today we’d like to introduce you to Magda Drabczynski.
Hi Magda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, my family was very musically inclined. I would sing blues/funk with my brothers on guitar and jam late at night for fun. I never thought of pursuing music seriously until I went to my first few raves and discovered the culture around electronic music. I always thought you needed a band to be successful but once I realized you can write, produce and perform music entirely on your own, I had to give it a shot. In 2017, I downloaded my first DAW, bought an entry-level DJ controller and got to work. I absolutely fell in love. I knew right away that this was what I wanted to do. I dipped my toes in a few different genres but I ultimately found a home with house music and developed my taste. Living in Orange County, I became very familiar with the local scene, attending all the different parties and meeting new people. I ended up landing a handful of gigs and picked up a residency with MDA (Modern Disco Ambassadors) – a reputable house music collective based in OC. I gained a lot of experience working with them and although the pandemic slowed things down, I didn’t let it stop me. Like many others, I’ve moved to live streaming and continued to build an online community. It’s gotten me through the hardships of this past year and kept me going.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most journey’s there are ups and downs. I’ve had to take a lot of risks and make notable sacrifices. My family was fairly skeptical at first but the harder I worked towards my goals and started achieving noticeable growth, they became extremely supportive. I’m super thankful for that. However, I still had to support my own weight and keep my head above water. It’s not easy working almost full time and trying to pursue a career in music. The long nights and early mornings will get to you. They still do. It’s all about focusing on what’s right in front of you and pushing through. Eventually, it all starts adding up!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I go by Magda Halina and I am a DJ, producer and vocalist. My style ranges from deep, vocal driven house to hard-hitting tech that’ll rattle the club. Although I’m versatile in my style, you can pretty much always count on a blend of sultry vocals, funky basslines, and driving groove. I would say those are the three elements that tie my style together because no matter what vibe I touch on, you’ll hear my taste. I’ve played for some reputable acts such as: Flava D, Hannah Wants, Robin Shulz, etc. I also graduated from Icon Collective and held a residency with MDA (Modern Disco Ambassadors) for over three years. When the pandemic hit, I started building an online community through livestreaming on Twitch. I now have a weekly show that’s been picking up some steam and I couldn’t be more excited to see where it goes!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being a good community member, I think it’s a really important key to success. Becoming aware of the community that you’re a part of and finding ways to contribute to it. If you support others from your heart, naturally it comes back around. Ultimately, it is your passion. Whether you’re a creator or a fan or both, you should love your community whole-heartedly and do what you can to bring value to it.
