Life and Work with Lashanda L’oreal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lashanda L’oreal.

Lashanda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born & raised in Jacksonville, FL, currently living in Los Angeles, CA. I’m a Mom of one beautiful daughter, Wife, Health & Wellness Influencer, Hairstylist, Personal Shopper and a Woman of Faith. I love encouraging women and helping them get there mojo back before and afterlife happens.

In 2013, my family and I moved to Southern California and my Journey II Wellness mentally, physically & spiritually began. Moving here, Being a hairstylist in Hollywood a place where your image, the way you look and the way you dress can make you or break you; I became really self-conscious about the weight. One day, I got the opportunity to do the hair of a celebrity reality tv star. I was sharing with her that I really wanted to lose weight but I just didn’t know where to start or what to do. She suggested that I try taking a class at the gym. I signed up for the gym membership and while working out I read You Are a Badass, This book helped to bring out the inner beast in me, just what I needed to lose this weight once and for all. Through fasting, praying, transforming my mindset and changing my diet I have been able to lose 65 lbs, have more energy and feel and look 18 again. I’ve got my mojo back!

Now that I have overcome many challenges that life has thrown my way because I truly believe that we go through things in life not to destroy us but to make us stronger so we can be a blessing to others. I recently have been led to start Journey II Wellness for women who are battling with trying to lose weight, maintain their weight and/or become more discipline with eating healthier. “Journey II Wellness Mind Body Soul is the gateway to helping women get their mojo back before and afterlife happens, learn how to become more disciplined with eating healthier, learn how to create/ incorporate healthy routines in their day to day life, learn how to unlearn bad habits/ negative thinking and replace it with healthy habits and positive thinking. I believe when you transform your mindset you can transform your body. When you believe that you can and will lose the weight you can and will achieve it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I experienced depression after losing my job of 10 years back in 2008. I started eating a lot and the weight began to pile on. I struggled with losing weight. I tried every diet, weight loss supplements and I even tried working out, but It wasn’t until I was introduced to the Daniel Fast (no meats, sweets or alcohol) with my church that helped me to become more disciplined with my food choices; After, doing this fast, I started eating healthier cutting out red meat & pork. Now, three years later, I’m vegetarian/pescatarian. In December 2019, it will be two years since I’ve had any meat. I noticed that once I started to eat healthier along with incorporating working out into my lifestyle the weight start dropping and I’ve been able to permanently keep it off. Not only did the fast help to change my mindset but it taught me how to be disciplined. I have evolved mentally, spiritually and physically; Now, eating healthy & working out is apart of my day to day routine. The advice I would give to other women is don’t ever feel like it’s too late to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. My favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13 “ I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”. On the days I felt like giving up, I remembered this scripture and it gave me the strength to keep going and not give up. Also, I started reading motivational books and listening to podcasts and spending more time seeking God’s will for my life. Also, I’m big on energies, I only allow positive energy in my space. Being mindful of the energy around you is huge. I’ve found that doing the things that you love and the things that bring you happiness is key to not just being healthy but being this best version of yourself you can be.

Please tell us about Journey II Wellness Mind Body Soul.
Journey II Wellness Mind Body Soul is for women who are battling with trying to lose weight, maintain their weight and/or become more discipline with eating healthier. “Journey II Wellness Mind Body Soul” is the gateway to helping women get their mojo back before and afterlife happens, learn how to become more disciplined with eating healthier, learn how to create/ incorporate healthy routines in their day to day life, learn how to unlearn bad habits/ negative thinking and replace it with healthy habits and positive thinking. I believe when you transform your mindset you can transform your body. When you believe that you can and will lose the weight you can and will achieve it.

My story sets me apart from others because Journey II Wellness focus more on helping you to become more disciplined with your mind, body & soul. Anyone can pay for a trainer, or pay to have meals prepared for them, but to lose weight you have to become disciplined and to become disciplined you have to train your mindset. Losing weight has a lot to do with your mindset. I believe by doing the Journey II Wellness 10 Day Fitness Challenges every month you are training your mind to become more disciplined with eating healthier foods and eliminating the foods that don’t add any nutritional value. Once you train your mind to be disciplined and you pair the discipline with consistency and incorporate my daily routine and meal plan, the weight will not just come off but you’ll keep it off.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
My advice for finding a mentor would be to find someone who’s doing what you want to do. Someone who has experience and expertise in the field you want to pursue. I recommend finding a business coach. I’ve found having a business coach has really been beneficial with getting Journey II Wellness off the ground. Social media has been a great tool for networking. Instagram is how I love to meet new people outside of attending networking events.
