Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Yatsko.
Rare Lilie is founded by Kimberly Yatsko, a professional fashion and portrait photographer.
Over the last four years, I have shot for 100s of clothing brands and shot ecommerce photography almost daily. With all of this experience, I have really learned to understand fabrics, know silhouettes that accentuate or do a disservice to a woman’s body and have been able to identify the perfect price point. Rare Lilie brings those elements together. Comfortable fabrics with great silhouettes at an affordable price.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think when you start a new journey, unfortunately, it is anything but smooth. Every path has its own set of obstacles, but ultimately that is how we learn and grow. One of my favorite quotes is by Twyla Tharp “Our ability to grow is directly proportional to an ability to entertain the uncomfortable.”
There are very few people who were aware that starting my own clothing line was a goal of mine for over 4 years. It wasn’t until last year that I knew I was ready to push forward and take on this new journey. I often listen to a lot of motivational speakers and ecomm podcasts and one thing I understood was that the first 6 months of opening your new company, it’ll be the largest learning curve of your new career. There are hundreds of new things you need to learn, and you’ll need to learn them fast.
Any advice that I can give to women who are starting a new career path is to hang tight and just breath. With all of the new information thrown at you, sometimes you’ll feel like you are learning calculus in Japanese. Don’t ever feel defeated, just walk away and come back to it a few hours later with a clearer head. I promise you it’ll all start to make sense.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Primarily, I am known as a fashion and portrait photographer who based out of Los Angeles. As mentioned earlier, I have shot for over 100 brands and with that comes a clearer understanding of how garments are made. Over the years, I have really paid a lot of attention to the way fabrics fit and fall on a woman body. How the cut or the fabric blend can significantly alter how rich a garment will look. Having that understanding, combined with knowing fabrics with great price points has really made Rare Lilie a satisfying journey. I’ve found a way to give women great looks at a super affordable price.
Who have you been inspired by?
I would have to say my mother has been my biggest inspiration. Her work ethic and her unwillingness to never give up over the years have molded me to possess those same types of values. I am the woman I am today because of her.
I have also been blessed to have such strong female friends around me. Their intelligence, accomplishments, and ability to push harder have all inspired me on a daily basis.
