Life & Work with Joey Rogoff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Rogoff.

Hi Joey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My background initially started in traditional film and tv production. I have worked on music videos, short films, and more corporate sets such as Netflix. As the pandemic began, social media became an easy place to shift to while tradition sets could not function. I shifted from more behind the camera work to an on-camera personality. I quickly grew a following on TikTok by posting comedic content that involved riddles, challenges, and bets with my family and friends. Snapchat’s Spotlight platform has opened up a new world of opportunities for my career. From a narrow standpoint, I have a whole new audience on a whole new platform that I did not have before. It is really cool to see new people enjoying the content that I create.

Along with that, it has obviously helped me financially. Spotlight has allowed me to truly focus on creating quality content without having to constantly think about how I am going to monetize and ultimately make my job sustainable. It has also created many opportunities for me in terms of meeting new creators and important industry professionals. If I could give one piece of advice to fellow content creators, I would say to trust the process. If you are really passionate about creating content and enjoy what you are doing, the results will follow. Another thing I would say is to take risks. Going into using Snapchat’s Spotlight platform, I had no idea what would come of it. I posted a few videos at first and had huge success, leading me to post hundreds of videos per day. This landed me a spot as one of Snap’s top Spotlight creators.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One huge obstacle that I faced early on was getting COVID. I became really sick and actually had to spend a week in the hospital. Thankfully I fully recovered. Although getting COVID was not fun at all, it truly opened up the options for me. I think it sparked something in me to fully pursue what I was passionate about. For a week following my hospital stay, I was quarantining in a hotel room alone. While there, I filmed videos for my platforms. It was challenging, but for sure helped me become the creator that I am today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Content Creator. I love to create content that actually gets the audience engaged. That is why I am known for many of the riddles and challenges that I do. It gets the viewers thinking and ultimately generates a dedicated fan base of my videos. My plans for the future are to continue to create the content that I love to make. I know my videos make a difference in people’s lives and I want to continue to do so in many different fashions.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think social media in general will only continue to grow, especially because of platforms like Snapchat’s Spotlight. If platforms continue to create great products and incentivize their creators to post quality content, the industry will continue to boom.
