Today we’d like to introduce you to Ericka Bernabe.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been the type of person who enjoys being self-taught. Growing up in a family of tech lovers, I loved getting my hands on anything that had to do with technology. My dad was always fixing computers and I followed right into his footsteps into being a computer enthusiast, however, computers weren’t the only thing I was fond of. As a kid, I loved playing with cameras and taking pictures of random things with my old point-and-shoot Olympus that had a tiny 2-inch screen. When I was 14 years old, I finally bought my first DSLR camera and I brought it with me everywhere (to the mall, to school, to parties) and that’s when I really fell in love with photography. Fast forwarding to after high school, I juggled with modeling and going to college for Communication Studies and Journalism, but I fell off my whole photography hobby for a bit; however, up until recently, after years of being a model and student, I decided to start a blog, Bernabella, to showcase the two things I truly enjoy doing – writing and creating content.
Has it been a smooth road?
I started my blog on January 2018 and I felt so accomplished once I got it up and running; however, I didn’t plan my posts well enough when I started out, so I held back on working on my blog for a bit. I focused more on getting my content posted on Instagram with a consistent schedule and it has been working well for me. Planning photo shoots and finding locations is probably the hardest part for me as being a content creator. I had to teach my boyfriend how to use my camera when I started my blog so he can capture the images I envisioned. It’s also difficult to not compare yourself with other influencers/bloggers/models in social media, but it’s important to believe in what you are capable of doing and be your authentic self. For the women who are just starting their journey, just like me, my advice is to simply be true to yourself and not compare yourself to others.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a digital creative and blogger that specializes in creating content that gives a feel of spontaneity with a touch of vibrancy through life, style, and travel. My content is pretty spontaneous, from my outfits to my captions to my location. I love change and stepping out of my comfort zone, so I try to show that through my photos. In reality, I am an introvert, but I enjoy being able to share my life through a lens that can inspire and be relatable.
Who have you been inspired by?
My mom is the biggest inspiration in my life because, like many mothers, she has worked hard on raising my brother and me to become our best selves. Growing up, she was somewhat strict with me which in turn made me become a rebellious teenager, but that never stopped her from pushing me to what I was capable of being successful at. Because of her, I was able to recognize what I was good at. She has been a stay-at-home mom for most of my life, and because of that, she was able to show me how to do things logically and efficiently in everyday tasks that will help me in life. I will forever be grateful for her knowledge and the quality time we always spend together talking about life. If I were to describe my mom is three words, it would be hilarious, smart, and loving!
