Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilynn Rose.
Emilynn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been doing photography for about 7 years now. I have had a wild journey to get to where I am today.
From living in the Philippines where art was never seen as a job, to moving to Hawthorne, CA, where gangs, drugs, and mischiefs were heavily influenced. I found photography when I was 16, and it was the one thing that helped me survive, and get away from all the negative influences that were circulating my life at the time. Once I turned 19, I pursued photography fully, with $2000 in my bank account and a camera in my hand. I moved to Hollywood as a starving artist, eager to pursue my dreams and work hard to someday become one of the best photographers in the world.
My dream isn’t just something that I plan on happening, every day I work hard to keep pushing, creating and learning from. Today, I can say proudly that I am a working and successful photographer and I have just opened my new studio, Rose Studios LA. However, my dreams are big, and I don’t plan on stopping here.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Chasing your dreams is never a smooth road. There are ups and downs, but every day you just have to keep pushing.
My advice for young women is too never think your dream is unattainable. It might not be easy, and you might have days where you feel like it’s so far, but just think of the day that you will be living your dream and you will be looking back at the time where it felt impossible.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Photographer and Owner of Rose Studios – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a photographer, but I specialize in fashion, commercial and advertisement photography. I am known for my color pop style, that resonates the LA lifestyle.
In the past year, I have been published on billboards, big campaigns, and photographed celebrities, which I can say I am tremendously proud of.
What sets me apart from others, is my style of photography, but also my personality. I believe that in this industry you have to be a people person and have great customer service. People need to like being around you, especially if you’re creating something for someone’s brand or store.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE!
I know it’s hard, but networking is everything. The people you know will help and guide you to the places you want to get to. I strongly believe that you cannot do everything yourself, you need people around you to support you and guide you.
