Life & Work with Deborah Leonhardt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Leonhardt.

Hi Deborah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in SoCal doing theater, majoring in it in college. I worked in restaurants to pay the bills but struggled with chronic illness since my late teens. As a teenager in the 80s, I was also fascinated by cosmetic and body care ingredients leading me to delve into numerous books on those subjects. My mom used to call me The Chemist, letting me do things like approving her shampoo, based on my decoding of the labels. With no help or answers from my western doctors, I became a searcher. I studied, trying out various modalities and methods to get well and feel better. Some years ago, God did for me what I could not do for myself. I was looking for something to transition into for work that would be easier on my body, with no success. I had an accident that kept me in mostly bed for about nine months with debilitating migraines and compressed nerves in my shoulder and arm, which lead me toward the field of natural, clean beauty. I went to school for esthetics and it’s been an incredible journey ever since. I met Stacey Stilts, the owner of Green Line Beauty while going through some rough medical treatments that were degrading my skin. She was so incredibly knowledgeable, recommending products that helped me enormously. (Yes, even me, The Chemist) I basically went to work for Green Line Beauty straight out of school. It has been a gift and a privilege to help people balance their skin and feel like their best selves.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, there’s that chronic health and accident/injury issue…so I have to be present and take care of myself. Honestly, I feel that my challenges are a part of how I’m able to listen to and help my clients since I have been there in some way or another. Other than that, it’s the amount of smoke and mirrors and false advertising about what actually goes into products.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Holistic, Intuitive Esthetician who only uses clean, non-toxic products and uses organic products whenever possible. I incorporate a lot of massage for tissue health, lifting, and lymphatic drainage. I love using Facial Reflexology and fascial release to help with the more visible results, on top of the deep healing Parasympathetic Relaxation that it activates. I am also a Reiki Master and incorporate energy work into the service, but I also offer full remote Reiki sessions. I believe that healthy skin is ultimately and inside job. Our life and health shows up on our faces. Everything is connected. You can do a lot with quality skincare products, but if you are eating unhealthy food, stressed out, not sleeping, etc., it can only do so much. I take the holistic approach and discuss multiple aspects of the client’s life with them and how their lifestyle is helping or hindering their goals. I love to educate and empower them.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
“Oh my God, where did I go?” or “Thank you, that was amazing! Just what I needed.” The sound of relief, excitement, relaxation and happiness in my clients’ voices as we finish a treatment. The smile on their faces when they see themselves looking lifted and refreshed – it’s so special to me. The trust that my clients have in me to help them balance their skin issues is humbling. It is truly a partnership I love.
