Life and Work with Dalar Mehrabian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalar Mehrabian.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From a very young age, I was always involved in some form of art. Whether it was art classes, dance classes or performing on stage. I always knew my future would involve me being creative somehow I just didn’t know exactly what it was going to be. After high school, I went to college and it took me a while to decide what I wanted to study. I chose sociology because studying groups of people were interesting to me. I graduated from Cal State LA, but I still didn’t feel complete. I knew something in my life was missing.

I have done my friends and family member’s makeup for as long as I could remember. They would always tell me that I was talented enough to do this professionally but I didn’t have the confidence. Slowly, I started posting makeup looks and video how to’s and I was getting a positive response. This gave me the energy to put out more content, fix my portfolio and work nonstop. I started receiving different opportunities and along the line, I met great people in this industry. This industry is always changing and it’s a learning process and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love what I do, I love all the people that I get to meet and work with and the greatest thing about this career is that you know you will never be bored.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it definitely was not a smooth road for me in the beginning. Nothing great in life comes easy. Some struggles for me personally were just getting noticed. There are so many great artists out there that sometimes as an individual you question your talent. My advice for other young women would be to have faith in your work and in your individuality. There are a million artists out there, but people will find you and be loyal to your work for your specific style. Don’t try to copy what other artist do. If you are true to your art, you will attract the attention that you desire.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mimi’s Glam Room – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Most of my clients return to me because not only do they love the way the skin feels, so does their significant other. So many of my clients tell me “my boyfriend loves how my face didn’t look like a cake.” I specialize mostly in personal services such as special occasion makeup and Bridal/Bridal Party Glam. I also specialize in Photoshoot Makeup & Television Makeup. I also have experience in music video sets and cosmetic brand campaigns.

What sets me apart from other artists would probably be that I follow the natural, effortless glam more often than the extra dramatic route. Love both styles equally though, you have to mix in a little color sometimes.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
One hundred percent. I am a true believer of one’s past experiences shapes their future.

I, for one, didn’t have an easy upbringing. My sweet teenage years were cut super short when I had to become an adult at the ripe age of thirteen. My family moved to the states when I was nine years old and we didn’t have any immediate family here for help. My mother got diagnosed with cancer when I was thirteen and passed away when I was fifteen. I practically had to raise my sister while my dad worked. Taking care of home, school and work all at the same time was very difficult for me and I missed out on a lot of things kids my age were experiencing.

Learning how to manage time and responsibility from such a young age for sure made me a stronger person with a bigger drive.

Things that people my age are dealing with now regarding different aspects of life, I dealt with way earlier in life. As difficult as life was in the past, I feel like it made me who I am today and I owe any of my future success to that.
