Life and Work in Hollywood with Carlotta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlotta Montanari.

Carlotta Sofia Montanari is an Italian-American actress born in Rimini, Italy. As a child, raised between the city and the countryside farmhouse with many horses and dogs, she wanted to work with animals, possibly as a veterinarian or professional horseback rider and trainer. She has carried her passion for animals and horses into her adulthood and it remains one of the biggest pleasures of her life. She became a TV host and model at an early age. After graduating in Visual Arts in Italy, she moved to Rome to pursue acting full time. After a successful acting and TV host career in Rome, the love for acting brought her to Los Angeles. Carlotta’s latest work includes her role on the Amazon original series Too Old To Die Young alongside Miles Teller and Billy Baldwin and directed by Nicolas Refn.

We joined Carlotta for her to tell us about her recent venture that combines both her love of the acting and entertainment industry and animals.

I recently founded Four Legs On Set, a boutique equestrian company that provides trained horses for productions, photoshoots, music videos, and also private projects or events. I want it to be affordable so that we can accommodate private projects and make some dreams come true, as well as working with commercial productions. Most of our horses are rescues or retired and they absolutely love being around people and that is why this project is so meaningful to me, it’s a second chance to them. This project started in my heart during the rehabilitation of my rescue, a 16 year old Paint Warmblood, retired sheriff’s horse. Because of severe back injuries caused by heavy careless riding, he was at risk of being put down. Thankfully, he ended up at an animal rescue with whom I am friends and a supporter, where he lived for a few years before we found each other.

Mambo was 16, he had no hope, everyone was suggesting that I return him and get a young healthy horse. I wouldn’t give up on him, and I rehabbed him, physically and mentally. Once he was healthy, I started him with liberty horsemanship, groundwork, and tricks and I found out he was the smartest horse I have ever met in 23 years being around horses. I began writing his story for a movie with a beautiful title, but it was taking longer because I needed my time for him when I wasn’t working, so in the meantime, Four Legs On Set was born!

I always thought that with my acting career it was going to be hard to have horses back in my life, but I couldn’t be happier to now have both. Anyone who has or had horses knows the time, dedication, and work that comes with having horses and giving them a good life. But I always said that acting is my emotional-therapy and animals are my physical-love-therapy and no better way to keep in shape. contains the promo of the company that Carlotta has produced, directed and acted in along with her team and some of her beautiful horses.

Has it been a smooth road?
I believe that if there are no challenges, it means you are playing it too safe. I am a warrior and definitely a survivor. When I truly believe in something, I am unstoppable, because in reality, God gave us all the tools we need, and the only thing we must keep alive is the enthusiasm. I have been told I am an inspiration artistically and personally and that’s a beautiful compliment I embrace.

In life, you never arrive-when you think you have accomplished something, I think that’s the time to regroup your energies and give thoughts to something new that speaks about something you have in your heart. As an artist, I really never stop creating, it can be anything, acting, making things, writing, anything!

My advice would be to do what you love, try to incorporate your passions and pleasures into your career or business. That way, you will enjoy going to work, the long hours will be more tolerable, and it will all show in the quality of your work.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Four Legs On Set – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Acting is my primary career and why my journey brought me to Los Angeles. Acting gives me an emotional outlet and a venue for creative expression. I have acted in both television and commercials. It is a very competitive and challenging business, and I cherish every single experience of it.  But I have also always had an entrepreneurial spirit, so starting Four Legs On Set was a natural combination of my two passions.

As all business owners know, starting a new business is a lot of work and never easy, but I believe that combining my two passions will make the road both fun and rewarding. My clients seem to appreciate my background knowledge and experience that I have in both equine and film/entertainment and how that reflects in the end product.  I hope the business will continue growing into something great!

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
In life, I believe we all can find mentors if we are open and humble to find them. If we think we know it all, we will probably close our ways to know more. A mentor can be anyone who expands your view and knowledge.  I would suggest to look right in front of you for good mentors, including friends, co-workers, and family. It is amazing how many smart and strong women are all around us. Sometimes I think people don’t want to intrude into the lives and careers of others, so it is important to reach out to these potential mentors and invite them in and seek their advice.
