Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianne Engelhart.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brianne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in a really small town of roughly the population of 2,000 people. Once I graduated, I decided to take a year off and work. Makeup has always been a hobby ever since I was around 12 years old, anytime before that I would tell everyone I would be that girl who never wore makeup. Now hop forward, three years after I graduated, I moved to Hollywood, California! In hopes to succeed in my career of special effects makeup! I am attending Cinema Makeup School in Korea Town and all thanks to my family and friends supporting me, but mainly my parents! If it wasn’t for them, I really wouldn’t be here and met all the amazing talented people around me! I am also a cosplayer and tend to be walking around Hollywood quite often! Let me also just say really quick if it wasn’t for my roommate and as well as my amazing girlfriend Jackie I wouldn’t be writing to you guys today.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has definitely been bumpy! For me, I struggle with self-identity issues as well as anxiety and depression. I have had a lot of ups where I found who I was, who I was meant to be, I was happier and healthier! Yet there were also a lot of downs, I felt I had made the wrong choice in moving here, I had lost hope in myself and forgot who I was which threw me down a deep dark hole of depression and I was constantly anxious! If I was to give any advice to other women let me just say this… I am always told to “Breathe” and “Keep your head up!” So I will tell you the same, just remember that there will always be bumps in the roads! Not everyone has it easy, not everyone has it hard, but when you do have the bumps every now and then and you think you are incapable of doing anything right, just take the time to Breathe… Relax a little, take time for yourself, do something you love to help get your mindset straight! Know that you are valid and it will all be okay in the end! You all got this!!!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
So I am currently going to Cinema Makeup School in the Korea Town area! I don’t know if I should call myself just a “makeup artist” because there is a whole lot more behind the scenes with makeup! I am probably known for my bloody special effects look I did a while back that made it on my school’s page on Instagram! When it comes to being set apart from others I have no clue honestly, everyone is the same on the inside and out, I don’t know enough about myself to say what sets me apart from others.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Don’t ever give up. Just keep moving forward!! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it, because you can do anything you put your heart and mind too! No matter what bumps you hit just keep going!
