Life and Work with Brandee Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandee Harris.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brandee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to LA in 2006 as a dancer. I’ve been blessed to dance share the stage with artists including: The Black Eyed Peas, Rhianna, Chris Brown, Missy Elliot, Jamie Foxx and more. In 2014 I had my son and started a dance fitness company called Sweat Squad. Mostly because I couldn’t find any classes I enjoyed while I was trying to loose the baby weight. Since then, I’ve transitioned into Choreography, creative Directing and running my Fitness company. I love what I do because I can be creative while empowering and inspiring others to live their best lives.

Has it been a smooth road?
As they say “Life ain’t always been no crystal stair”. My fitness company was actually an extension of my Holistic Health Coaching business I had for a few years. I got into health coaching after gaining a few pounds while I was dancer. I was in great shape and not at all overweight but this is Hollywood and thin is the industry standard. I had no clue what to do with the idea that I needed to loose weight and quickly discovered I really didnt know how to be healthy. So I went to Nutrition school in 2012 and graduated with my Holistic Health Coaching Cert. Having a dream to do just about anything is taught but having tat dream in a city like LA is a monster! The competition alone in the dance world is enough to leave you stressed on the daily, then couple that with having the self-confidence to go after a job like “Choreographer or Creative Director” takes guts. It took me a long time to believe that others could and would believe in my talent. However, I pushed forward (and gave up a few times) then finally I met the right people who saw what I saw in myself. I learned that you are not for everyone but the people who are for you will appear if you keep pushing thru.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sweat Squad Dance Fitness – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
As a Creative Director & Choreographer, I help artists find and excite their vision through art and movement. As a dance fitness instructor, I give women of all walks of life a safe space to let loose and be free while getting in shape.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
The most important advice I can give is A) Patience will take you far. Don’t give up because rejection comes. Rejection helps build character. And B) Character. A good attitude will get you into more doors than your talent. People love to work with those who bring good energy to the environment.
