Life and Work with Bobbie Long

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobbie Long.

Bobbie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
This is me, plus a little extra. Bobbie Etc.
A 5’3″ gal always dressed in black, I’m in my early 20’s, I live in Los Angeles, and in 2017, my life shattered in the most transformative way possible. I went through a break up that left me feeling worthless which spiraled into a detrimental battle with anorexia nervosa, I graduated college with no idea of what I wanted to do in life, and bought a $150 plane ticket to Europe. I shoved a pair of worn-in jeans and four shirts into my backpack and went on a quest to find my sanity, heal my starving body, and see the world from a different perspective.

And hell, this undoubtedly changed my life. I found the person I lost- myself.

After returning to the United States, I turned down “big girl jobs” (that I blindly applied for) and worked in “fine dining” for seven weeks. I saved $4,500, packed my car, and drove over 2,000 miles to California. I crashed at a friend of a friend of a friend’s (in other words- I didn’t know who this person was) place for a week with no job lined up but you know what I did have? I knew I was going to fail, get back up, and chase my dreams of being an artist.

After working a few soul-sucking jobs, here I am a year later living in Santa Monica running a print and custom design business from my home. I specialize in occult art and tattoo designs dedicated to transferring my positive energy into the life of another. I hope my art finds its way onto a cozy wall in your safe space or perhaps tattooed on your body so that every time you look at it, you’re reminded of how magically beautiful you are. A balance of light and darkness. You.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
To say the least, developing my business hasn’t been a smooth road. I don’t believe anything that is worth fighting in life is achieved without trial and error. I think my biggest piece of advice is to understand that you are going to fail. You may fail hard. However, if you choose to continue chasing your dream, you will eventually succeed if you’re fully invested in making your dreams become a walking reality. I won’t tell you it will happen overnight because more than often it won’t. Keep pushing, learning, and evolving. I can’t fully explain the profound feeling I had when I successfully designed and printed my first print. After countless times of getting knocked down in production, I put hands on my final results and cried hysterically. I knew that moment that I was going to touch people all around the world with my art. That is the moment I achieved my biggest goal. Whatever it is that you’re pursuing, don’t give up. If you do, you will regret it for the rest of your life but nothing comes easy.

Please tell us about your work.
I specialize in occult art and custom tattoo designs. Every design includes symbolic elements tied to specific powers. I embed my magick so that it organically flows into your life with light and love. The idea to show a harmony of light and dark elements of this world.

For my public print designs, every piece printed on recycled paper that I personally size and hand cut.

For custom tattoo designs, I directly correspond with my clients to understand their needs so that I can channel their energy and provide the perfect magickal piece to positively enhance their life.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
In each of my designs, I am set on showing the harmony of light and dark elements of this world. I believe that when you reach an understanding that life is neither good nor bad, it just is, then nothing can inhibit your growth. I could blame everything on my father who abandoned us at a young age but I won’t let the darkness of my childhood swallow me. How would I appreciate the light, happy things in life without the dark, heart-wrenching times?
