Life & Work with Bam Berry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bam Berry.

Hi Bam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was young as five years old when my father introduced me to Art. My parents always encouraged me to pursue art all throughout high school. Once I graduated in 2005 from high school, I was accepted into Savannah College of Art and Design, Which lead me to a major in Illustration. I knew I wanted my career to evolve around art but I did not know which direction. Once I graduated in 2010, one year later, I moved back to Los Angeles. I then started teaching art classes from ages 3-18 years. That lead on for eight years and then I decided to branch out and start my own clothing line. I would always provide designs as a part-time gig for clients throughout the years so I wanted to do more. So in 2014, that is where the brainstorming begun. After a long three years of life coming at me. In 2017, I was finally ready to start building my business. And that’s where Stink Collection came about.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh no. Not smooth at all. The expenses and time management was the biggest hill to climb. When I started, Living from paycheck to paycheck and also trying to save to build your brand was very challenging. There were times where I did second guess what I was doing was right but I couldn’t give up. Learning consistency and holding myself accountable was also something I had to develop in order to get it done.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am all over the place when it comes to design. I am an Illustrator/Graphic Designer, as well as a Voice Over Actor and Investor. I also own a Clothing Line and a Shoe Lace Line for sneakers (coming soon). I am known for my logo designs. People say I nail it when it comes to knowing exactly what the client wants when they don’t know what they actually want. Lol. I just need a direction and some color choices and we are good to go. I am most proud of my consistency that has got me thus far. Also, being that role model for the ones that do look to me for motivation and encouragement. What sets me apart from others is that I have no problem taking a gamble on investing or taking risks on new business ventures. I force myself to study and invest in other businesses (Automotive, Stocks, Real Estate, etc.) I am always open to expanding my business ventures, even if it has nothing to do with art and design. Having versatile knowledge is an importance to me.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The one book I would recommend is The Celestine Prophecy: An Adventure by James Redfield. I gave me a better understanding of human nature. It gives you a clear understand of past events in our lives and how these events have prepared us to start a new life purpose.
