Life and Work with Ashley Lomelin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Lomelin.

Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always loved putting my interest to write short stories to work and combining my journalism background with my experience in marketing. While I was looking for a permanent position in marketing, I started writing short stories about my life as I navigated living on my own for the first time and lessons I learned from random blips. With time, I had garnered an audience that was not only intrigued with how I interpreted my shenanigans, but also began requesting topics for future articles.

Has it been a smooth road?
I started this blog out of passion and for looking for a place to practice my writing. Because of that, I didn’t necessarily have a rocky road. It’s incredible how expectations can change your journey. I never assumed it would grow, one day, it just did.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Millennial Going Down – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I personalize in lifestyle content – at least that’s what they say. I like to believe that I still write about the various lessons as I encounter as I approach my late-twenties mixed with a variety of topics I want to learn about: sports, finance, and even DIY’s. I also like to acknowledge and appreciate the audience I have gained by allowing them to also dictate what articles to incorporate into the mix.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I have worked in remote positions for a few years now and if you want a mentor or support group, you really need to go out and look for it. I joined clubs/groups that were similar to my interests, including fitness and other bloggers. At the end of the day, you just need to get out, be inviting even when you don’t want to be and continue to smile on your loneliest days.
