Life and Work with Amy Asaturyan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Asaturyan.

Amy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a lifelong lover of the written word and playing dress-up. At a very young age, I began writing professionally while maintaining steady work in other fields. I also practiced the art of self-expression and self-exploration through style and fashion. When blogging made its mainstream debut, I was completely enamored with the early trailblazers. I too sought the courage to take to the internet stage and create a self-documented universe of personal style coupled with writing. When I first carved out a little corner for myself, I was quite terrible at it and had no idea what I was doing. Everything was new, everything was a learning experience, and seeing myself from a distance created a sort of rebirth for me. I’ve worked hard to get it just right and still have so much to learn, but love every moment of it. When not blogging, I also run a professional writing and social media consulting business. I solve word problems and [social] media problems.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to success is always a bumpy one and it’s important to celebrate little victories and be happy right where you are. My own struggles have mostly been fabricated by own mind, fueled by my need to have it all figured out from the get-go. It’s hard to practice gratitude sometimes because we’re always so driven by needing more and wanting more, that it tends to drown out all the wonderful things that are happening to us in real time. My advice to anyone, starting anything, is to just be content with where you are and embrace the chaos. There’s something so beautiful in growth and progress, but for a seed to grow into a big, beautiful tree it must first go through all the phases to get there. Enjoy the journey, be kind to yourself, and don’t be afraid to ask questions of those who have done the journey you’re about to embark on.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Doodles and Dresses – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My friends call me a wordsmith. Before I am a human, a woman, a professional, I am first and foremost a writer. Launching a blog has given me an opportunity to share things that are important to me without the confines of rules or even guidelines. Blogging has been a great outlet for my thoughts, as have my Instagram captions, which I work just as hard on (sometimes harder). As a professional writer with just over two decades of experience, I basically have written it all or can write it all, in all kinds of voices for all kinds of audiences. I’m a proud published author and have also ghostwritten a variety of books. I regularly write articles and create content for many different industries while I explore new ways to utilize the multifaceted and fascinating world of language. One of my proudest works is a coffee table book called Doodles & Love, which is what inspired my blog. I suppose what sets me apart from others is my ability to listen; a good writer must know when to be silent, especially when telling other people’s stories.

Who have you been inspired by?
To be frank, I’m inspired by all women. Their energy, strength, and support have always played a central role in my own success. I’ve tried to surround myself with mother figures and powerful, impressive women as a perpetual source of inspiration. Being raised by a strong, single mother has really instilled a spirit of independence in me and a desire to seek out other like-minded females. Everything is better when women support each other.
