Inspiring Conversations with Tia Hargrove of Trip Sales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Hargrove.

Hi Tia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My business partner Christy and I both shared a serious passion for fashion. We began our journeys and friendship at Liza Stewart Inc. This was our first introduction into the captivating world of multi-line showrooms. We were completely fascinated with all facets of representing wholesale apparel brands.

We eventually moved on from that showroom and grew our careers in other parts of the business. Increasing our knowledge in both sales and production. Along the way, we found out that we loved working with made in the US brands. We felt that there was a void in showrooms that only represented made in the US brands.

Seeing a need and wanting to fulfill this need is what led us to come together to start our own showroom. Trip Sales Inc. which represents all made in the US brands.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, how much time do you have? This road has been crushingly brutal! Our business turned one and then boom the pandemic hits! Our brands couldn’t get their teams into the office to ship products, rework orders, or even help with accounting issues. We had to quickly come up with a new strategy to reach and retain accounts.

Trade shows were canceled so we took to the road. We saw our accounts in their stores and created a more intimate buying experience with them. Zoom collection showings became our new normal. This gave us a better chance to focus on what each specific account really needed.

The brands we represent focused on making less which had a surprisingly positive impact on sales. Being a new business, we had to create and stick to a budget wholeheartedly. Through all the challenges we’ve been able to stick to our “Why”.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Trip Sales Inc.?
Trip Sales Inc. is a multi-line apparel showroom. We specialize in women’s apparel made in the USA. We take pride in knowing that our brands are becoming more sustainable, paying their employees a living wage with benefits, and focusing on creating a more diverse fashion industry.

As a consumer, you have a right to know who produces the products we love to buy. It’s important for us to know that the brands we love to wear have a strong ethos behind them. The garments our bands create are manufactured right here in the USA by talented people.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We’re hopeful that more consumers will become mindful of where their products are coming from, how they’re produced, and by whom. This will have an effect on how people shop and ultimately on what apparel brands create. We’re striving for more inclusivity.

We believe brick and mortar retailers will become places of fellowship and community again. Quality over quantity any day. We’ believe consumers will grow tired of their fast fashion options and less waste will be created.

Creating fashion sustainability will be the next big shift in the apparel industry.
