Inspiring Conversations with Nikodem Blek of Premier Armor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikodem Blek.

Hi Nikodem, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I graduated with a bachelor’s in Criminology and Criminal Justice. My aspirations were to become an Interpol Agent, I spoke English, Polish, French, and Arabic but ten years later I forgot how to speak Arabic and my French is really rusty. I graduated in 2008 and job opportunities were slim to none so I started working for a family friend in an obscure and mostly unknown automotive oriented industry called Paint Protection Film. I fell in love with my job and worked 80-90 hours a week for three years helping build up a company in St. Louis, MO and then I moved to Corona to start working for a distressed company in Palm Springs. After about six months, I got them back on their feet. They then screwed me over so I finally decided to take the plunge and build my own business from the ground up. One of my biggest motivators is the fear of failure. My family fled Poland in the 80s to escape communism and we didn’t fuck around when it came to an honest day’s work. Work was hard to come by in Poland. I also don’t like to be looked down upon like I’m lesser, which is why I think the British monarchy is bullshit. Even when I was a kid, I had the opportunity to meet Pope John Paul 2nd and they told me that when I greet him, I have to call him “Excellency” and kiss his ring. Even as a kid I thought “Yea, I’m not doing that shit, who the fuck does this guy think he is?!” But he was feeling too tired and decided to fuck over 100 people who took a special trip just to see him. So I didn’t have to grovel to him but I remember the look on everyone’s face. All the adults standing around scratching their heads trying to figure out how to deal with being rejected by their “excellency.” That’s kinda why I started a business of my own, I hate failure and I hate being screwed over. I’m no better than you and you’re no better than me. It’s how I run my shop because I know how shitty it feels to be fucked over by business owners like the guys I used to slave for in the past. The guys I work with are some of the closest people I know. My best friend Rocky told me, “be the man you needed when you were younger.” I wanna be that guy for my crew, fuck yea.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been bumpy. I’m currently going through a divorce. There was a period of three years where my parents and I weren’t on speaking terms. I’ve been screwed over so many times that I could put “Hooker” as one of my previous occupations on LinkedIn. Failure has taught me to be overly cautious. After working for the place out in Palm Springs I worked for three years in solitude as a subcontractor. I never felt more alone in my entire life. My relationship with my previous wife was rough, so I didn’t really have anyone to turn to that really understood me. Imagine being stuck in one place for 12-14 hours a day with no one around for three years. It fuckin sucked.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Premier Armor Inc?
I’m the owner of Premier Armor Inc in Corona, CA. We provide Paint Protection Film, Ceramic Coating, and Tint services. We are known for our premier quality and premier service. We are most known for our Paint Protection Film, it’s a virtually invisible polyurethane film that is applied to the paint of your car, truck, motorcycle or RV to prevent rock chips and scratches. In 2020 I placed 1st in a worldwide competition held by our Distributor Xpel. No shit, I competed against dudes from South Africa, Europe, etc. I am the reigning champion of the world (Borat voice). What sets us apart is where won’t get hung up on being too professional. Our line of work is extremely difficult, most of you reading this can’t even get a screen protector on your phones with out dirt or bubbles, now imagine doing it on the hood of a car. My friend Rocky said something really profound, our work is professional so we don’t have to be. Our quality of work and service revolves around exceeding the expectations of our competitors. We truly feel lucky to have this industry and we know the only way we’ll grow is through word of mouth because how can you advertise something that’s intended to be invisible on your car?

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
When I tell them I’m the reigning world champion for the product their shopping for. It’s hard for them to wrap their head around it. Like they don’t understand why I chose to open up in Corona instead of Monaco or Beverly Hills. I usually tell them I’m not good at being bougie.
