Today we’d like to introduce you to Lena Strothe.
Hi Lena, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I studied film production in college – and very quickly realized I was unemployable in most cities aside from Los Angeles! So I moved out here knowing only handful of people. I worked all kinds of jobs, from transcribing reality TV interviews, to being a PA on music videos, to placing complicated salad orders for executives. Eventually, I found my niche in entertainment marketing and started producing content for movie campaigns. My time working at creative agencies ultimately led me to create my company Wrangle, a members-only job board and networking platform for media professionals.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In terms of my professional journey in entertainment, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who said coming up in that industry is easy. Don’t get me wrong, all of us working in creative industries are absolutely lucky and it can be a lot of fun. We get to tell stories for a living! But it also comes with a lot of long hours and struggles. My biggest challenge producing is actually the challenge my company Wrangle now aims to solve: Finding qualified creative collaborators on short notice. I knew there was a way to build a vetted, searchable network of professionals, and I knew there were so many others in my position, having the same headache, that needed a community they could trust.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Wrangle connects top-tier creatives! We are a members-only network and staffing resource open to anyone who has worked professionally in a creative industry. So, say you are a Producer looking to hire a Researcher, or a Post Supervisor searching for new Assistant Editors, an Event Planner looking for a Photographer, we have you covered. Similarly, if you are a freelancer and want to grow your client base, we can connect you with new opportunities, hiring managers, and high-visibility projects. But Wrangle is more than just a database or job board, I personally take great care in fostering a positive, creative community. We are always mindful of feedback from both clients and vendors, we continuously review portfolios to identify new potential collaborations and check on teams once their project has wrapped to ensure things have gone smoothly. One of my favorite features is our Spotlights page, which highlights the incredible work our members do. I love seeing the amazing videos, photos, paintings they’ve made, or the cool locations they found, or the costumes they created. It’s such a varied, talented group of people!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Well, first off, I’ve been quite lucky: Lucky to have amazing parents, lucky to have made it to LA, lucky to have found an amazing co-founder for Wrangle… but beyond that, I will say have a good work ethic, and I genuinely care about the people I work with and treat everyone with respect. I think those two qualities have gotten me further than anything else in life.
