Inspiring Conversations with Kya Buggs of Rubye Tresses

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kya Buggs.

Hi Kya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first launched my hair business in my Senior year of high school under the name “Kouture Beauty”. I decided to only start selling affordable Virgin hair bundles, lace frontals, & closures to my peers as an extra form of income, once I started seeing I was actually getting clientele, I decided to take it a little more seriously in 2020. After taking some time off to relaunch & perfect my craft, I finally relaunched in December 2020, only this time I picked up a new craft which was Custom Wig Making. I had no knowledge on how to use a sewing machine so I bought a Wig making course & kept practicing until I felt comfortable enough to provide the service for my customers. I started off promoting my services via social media to every one & I went from receiving orders from locals all the way to places I have never even heard of. It seemed like every other day I was hitting a new milestone in my business, I was even starting to get people asking for 1 on 1 Wig Making classes. Till this day my business is still elevating and I am nothing but grateful for that.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. In the beginning of me learning how to make Wigs, it was very frustrating not having any prior knowledge with a sewing machine before grasping Wig Making; It seemed like every time I would attempt to learn my machine would jam or every time I tried to teach myself a new styling method for my Wigs something would go wrong which would make me want to give up. The best thing I learned from all this is to be patient & give yourself time to grasp the knowledge before giving up even if you have to try multiple times. I feel like even with me being almost two years into my craft, I still have a lot to learn & that is absolutely okay.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rubye Tresses?
We specialize in Glueless Custom Wigs for individuals who just simply don’t have time to stop at the salon or do their own hair. We do all the work so our customers don’t have to because who doesn’t love convenience? We are known for providing Luxury Raw hair that lasts about three years & our versatile Custom Units. Our quality & work ethic alone sets us apart from others and we are always willing to go the extra mile for our customers because it’s simply what they deserve. I want readers to know that quality will forever be better than quantity, nobody should have to go through the hassle of buying new hair every month because that can easily become expensive; We added payment plans on our website for this exact reason because we understand not everybody has the budget to buy a new Wig every month. We also went as far as adding a Wig Revamp service so that customers can send their old wigs to be refreshed & styled.

How do you define success?
I believe success is building something out of nothing & being able to survive off of it. I believe you are also successful once others get inspired by you and are willing to learn from you.
