Inspiring Conversations with Kimberley Cotter of POP Media LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberley Cotter.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our journey began separately, with both of us finding our love for photography through school and/or work. We both found ways to incorporate photography and video into our daily lives, even if that meant going out to shoot on our days off or after work. In 2019, we met at a photo meetup that Kimberley was hosting in DTLA, and we just clicked (no pun intended). At the time, we were both working jobs that didn’t fulfill us and we were craving a creative career that would allow us to pursue our passions. It didn’t take long for us to come up with the idea of POP Media LA, a photo and video production house that curates custom branded content with the mission to make a difference in our local communities by working with brands that share our vision of generating a positive impact on society. We run off of the concept, “Passion Over Profit.” We are founded upon the idea that life is about doing what you love and supporting others to do the same.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We’ve definitely faced our fair share of challenges, especially since we started our company just months before the pandemic in 2020. We had just built up our clientele and finally felt like we were getting the hang of things, and within days everything was shut down and all of our contracts were put on hold. We took that time to reflect on our “why” and put our energy towards learning and perfecting our craft. We gave back to our community by offering our services to those in need, collaborating with local businesses and connecting with other creatives. We’ve learned over the years that you have to just roll with the punches and make the best out of any situation, and it’s that mentality that has allowed us to survive and succeed in difficult times. It also doesn’t hurt to surround yourself with people that inspire you to continue to grow and challenge yourself in all aspects of life.

At POP Media LA, we provide a wide range of professional content creation and branding services to meet your needs. Whether you’re starting a new company, re-branding your existing business, or looking to grow your social media and online presence, we are here to help you tell your story and elevate your business through specially curated content.

Our mission is to create content that inspires. We want to make a difference in our local communities and work with companies and brands that share our vision of generating a positive impact on society.’

In addition to empowering others, we believe passionately in traveling, coffee breaks, long walks on the beach with our rambunctious Belgian, bonfires with great friends (both old and new), and a spirit of adventure.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid-19 has had a huge impact on our business and personal lives. As content creators, we found ourselves in a creative rut when we were told we couldn’t travel, let alone leave our home. It forced us to find inspiration within our four walls. At first, this felt restricting, but we soon realized it was actually liberating. We don’t have to travel somewhere far to tell a meaningful story. It took us back to when we were younger and had the imagination to create something out of nothing, and reminded us that the possibilities are endless so long as you have an open mind and curious ingenuity.
